This the message I get from my standalone DVD player. I have a Sony dvp-ns400D
I have just picked up my first DVD+/-RW drive, Philips 8631. I downloaded some dvd images, one in a .mdf format and another in .iso. I read some guides and went with DVD Decrypter to burn both images. I go to play them in my standalone player. and I get the message playback prohibited by area limitations.
I have had some other people burn other dvd-r's with the media i am currently using, TDK and have no playback problems.
I set my dvd drive properties to region 1. It seems like the default in dvd decrypter is for region 1.
one more thing the dvd's do play on my computer burner drive just fine.
Anyone have any ideas before I make more coasters?
THanks
steve

Your player may not work with region free discs. Set DVD Decrypter to ISO read, if it shows all regions try setting it in options to your local region code and buring again. Use a RW if you have one.

I think it must be region free. It lists them all 1-8. Do I change that by removing the macrovision protection and selecting rce protection region #1 for the US?
Thanks

i'm not sure what's going on with my stuff at the moment.
I just poppped a commercial region 1 dvd in the rw drive and opened dvdshrink and when open the full disc tab and put the cursor on the main title the preview has blue screen that says "this player is incompatible with the region marking of this disc" , but when i hit the play button it works?
Is there anyway to tell if a file image *.iso or *.mdf is pal or not?
thanks

Yep you're right its the first cell. at least something seems right
Anyway to tell if an image file is pal or ntsc if its still in an iso format or mdf format?

Well I was able to check the format of the dvd-r I burned previously and yes its in PAL format. How hard is it to convert to NTSC? I can't seem to get the Daemon Tools thing down. I've mounted the iso in the toolbar icon, but in info edit, I can't seem to find the settings to check if its PAL or NTSC. I'd like to find out for future files.
Thanks again for all the help

To tell in IFOEdit if you have PAL or NTSC (after you've opened VIDEO_TS.IFO in it):
The top circle tells you about the Menu. The second one tells you about the first title. If your DVD has more than one title, then there'll be more than one line here.If in doubt, Google it. -
Hmmm... well....
I have tried MANY ways to make a region 1 only dvd and they always come out as all region...

Even posted this awhile back and got nothing.....
Make a region 1 only dvd and let me know how you did it
I have tried quite a few times, burning back with nero & DVD Decrypter ...
ZIP..... still all regions...... -

Okay, i'm serious... i have tried with everything to make a region 1 dvd and they always come out as all regions.... 1 through 8... finally gave up....
Not that they have to be because all region always works.... for me anyways, just for the fact that i wanted to be able to -
Done.
Files created by DVDShrink burnt with Nero Express with DVD-Video template.
DVDDecrypter:
IFOEdit:
So it looks like the IFOs are written correctly (untouched by burning program), but some "readers" must be hard-coded to say that DVDRs are region-free, regardless of what the IFOs say.If in doubt, Google it. -
Okay,
So you ran it through DVD Shrink then opened Nero and loaded them through there & burned it or you let DVD Shrink burn it through Nero.
Just wanna make sure because im going to try it again and check the disc on all 4 of my dvd-roms with all 3 programs to see what they say.
-
Okay,
I ran it through DVD Shrink with the region set to only "region 1"
And this is what it looked like after with IfoEdit from the HD.
Now after burning, through 4 diff. dvd-roms they all said the same thing with
DvdinfoPro & DVD Decrypter
Yet when the disc itself is checked again with IfoEdit
It say's the same as from the HD.
So am i to now think that DVD Decrypter & DvdinfoPro are not as
accurate as they are thought to be
Because they are not giving the same info as IfoEdit ??
& i was even given the unused region :P
& before anyone brings it up, yes, i have tried with "-" & "+" not booked at dvd-rom -

As I said earlier, I suspect that there's a few programs that detect that it's a DVDR, and automatically assume that it's region free without reading the IFO. IFOEdit just displays the contents of the IFO in their raw state, so I would trust it over some of the other programs, as we have just provenIf in doubt, Google it. -
Hey guys, I was trying to follow this process, but I am not that versed in softwares, I also have the Philips DVD 8631, and would like to make my Burner Region free. Can someone please take a moment to make step by step instructions, you don't have to show pictures if its a hassle, I rent most of my films from Nicheflix and Cinflix, and most of them are region 3 . Thanks in advance

This will make your Drive region free but windows has a region change count also. You can use DVD Region Killer to stop this.
