  1. Hello, I'm in need of help with some AVI files. I have hours of video of my family durning the holidays and birthday parties, and was wondering how I would go about to make my AVI files to be able to play on a DVD player. I have a friend with a DVD-R burner, I have a few GB's of video and need help! I think I need to convert the AVI into a format and then burn them, but what program could I use, and then when I burn it will it just be put in the DVD player(not a computer dvd player) and start playing? Will someone point me in the correct direction please! Thank you!

Others may have different views, but the above is what I use.

    Good luck.

To save me typing it out again, see this post. It basically details what you need to do - convert to DVD-compliant MPEG-1/2, author, burn.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi zstarmaster,

This thread was started by someone wanting to do the same as you...

There are numerous answers, but all fall into one of two groups: "easy but may not get the quality" and "more involved but better quality more likely".
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

For pure simplicity, try VSO Software's DivXtoDVD. It's free, and it's easy as it gets. While you're there, download a copy of their CopyToDVD software and DivXtoDVD will automatically burn to DVD when it's done converting your AVI files.

    Download both programs at http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm

Just make you choose "Force NTSC" in the Standard dropdown box in DivXtoDVD to ensure it plays on your DVD player.

As daamon mentioned, there are many ways to do this. - The above solution falls in the "easy, but not the highest quality" category. Still, it's surefire and simple.
