What is the difference in specification (told in layman's language) between the old standard the DVD-R and the New standard DVD+R... I am told that plus +R supports more advanced Higher density burning, and has other advantages... As claimed by the DVD+R industry association's website at http://www.dvdrw.com/ PLEASE ADVISE which is better?? I know that more DVD players SEEM to support the minus/dash

Neither is better. They are all equal.

We don't want another format war breaking out
    If in doubt, Google it.

SERIOUSLY - I am NOT trying to start some kind of childish format war. I am being for real here. Even as a NEWBIE I have noticed a difference. Also The DVDplusR advocates claim that DVDplusR supports some sort of dual track/layer HD burn technology that is coming out...Donald Miller Charleston SC

Regardless, you watch what happens. Even if started with the best of intentions, this sort of topics brings out the hobos/fanatics in their droves.

Naturally, the plus people claim that theirs is better - the dash people claim that theirs is better. I don't see any universal, hard-copy proof ATM that separates the two, except possibly plus's ability to do DL, which dash has on the way so I'm led to believe.

The best format is the one that works for YOU.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I used to be a "+" User, then i went to "-" then back to "+" For the fact you can set the book type on "+" to dvd-rom. but for myself all formats seemed to work fine.
