OK I'm using IE with sp2, it was my assumption that it blocks all pop-ups. I've noticed it doesn't block those pop-ups that are embedded in the page such as ones that can be found here: http://p206.ezboard.com/bundergroundminers There is another pop-up on this site that IE sucessfully blocks. Makes sense you can't block the embedded one since it's part of the code in the page.

....but if I go here to one of the local newspaper sites http://www.citizensvoice.com there's a regular pop-up that sucessfully gets thru in a new window.... BTW this site sucks as far as pop-ups go. If you didn't block them at all there would be about 3 per click..... Google pop-up blocker fails too for the one that gets thru IE. So what's up anyone know? I think it has something to do with the link structure.

Edit: hmmmmmm, many of the links lead offsite, here's their guestbook. Simply clicking the form entry "Your Name" at the bottom of the page brings up a pop-up..... http://www.zwire.com/site/community.cfm?brd=2259

Edit2: LOL I can't even put my name, it reactivates the pop-up removing the cursor from the field...... What jackasses.

Don't have an answer, but if we pay the 535 guys in Washington D.C. to pass a bill to make pop ups illegal, you think this might go away?
    Hello.

Don't think you could do that, there's no one forcing you to go to the website that serves the pop-ups..... I would disagree with that anyway because why should anyone delegate to me how I design my site providing it doesn't contain malicious content. If there such a nuisance then I just won't go there such as the site I linked to above. I was bitten by this anti-ad thing on my site. Norton ad blocker was blocking some of my site content just because of the folder name which is complete bullshit since it was legitimate no-ad content.

Anyhow upon further investigation, i was incorrect. It doesn't pop-up on the first page load but when you click anywhere on the page....... dirty bastards. Still thought that was not possible with IE and SP2...you get LS when you click on anything.?

  7. Sounds like you've got spyware. This site doesn't have any pop-ups.

I'm getting one that's getting through besides the two IE blocks..... I think I might know why, I have MS VM installed for a piece of software that requires it.... Could be the culprit.

Still nothing. Odd. I didn't think Norton, or Spybot dd anything to pop-ups. I never get them. No blocker running either, it's turned off.

Using IE 6 w/ XP SP2, at the underground coal site, I got a pop-up displayed (the embedded one) and one blocked. I turned my pop-op blocker settings up to high, and both were blocked. At the newspaper site, the pop-up was blocked on both medium and high settings.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  17. I have found that my IE also leaked pop-ups. The blocker just doesn't work right.

Firefox blocks everything unless I explicitly tell it that it should allow it.

    Try Firefox.

I've got sp2, but use the google toolbar and not the popup blocker from windows. I like the running tally of how many it's blocked. Almost to 3,000!!!
