  1. OK, here is my problem, I used a hack to make my DVD player region free, but the TV is NTSC with no Component Video.
Is there any way to watch PAL DVDs in color on this TV? Any converters or anything?
    Thank You Very Much.

PS if I manage to take off macrovision, if I copy the dvd to my stand alone dvd recorder using the component video cords, would the resulting dvd be region1 in color?

    We have 2 issues here:

    1.) Region free
    2.) PAL to NTSC conversion

Some DVD players can be made region free which means they can play any DVD from any region. Now a few (very few) can only play one format vs another. For intance it might be able to play all NTSC DVD discs regardless of region but not a PAL DVD (again regardless of region). That is a pretty rare machine.

Most DVD players that can be made region free can then play both PAL or NTSC or in other words any DVD out there.

Now some of these DVD players can not change the format. So a NTSC DVD always goes out as NTSC and a PAL DVD always goes out as PAL.

Some of these though ... and this is what you want ... can convert on output so a PAL DVD can play back in NTSC.

Usually these DVD players have an output option with the following settings:

    1.) NTSC
    2.) PAL
    3.) MULTI

If you select NTSC then any DVD played comes out as NTSC even if the DVD is PAL format. If you select PAL then any DVD played comes out as PAL even if the DVD is NTSC format. If you select multi then the format of the DVD is the output (NTSC comes out as NTSC and PAL comes out as PAL).

So you need to check your DVD player.

Telling us what it is would help to (as in model and make).

    *** EDIT ***
By component video do you really mean component or composite? Composite is the single RCA jack (usually colored yellow) where as component is three RCA jacks all of which are for the video. Then there is S-Video which is the single connector with the bunch of "pins" at the end.

  4. Great, Everything you said already helped.
    I have a pretty new

    PhilipsDVDR75

I actually made my Toshiba SD-4900 region free and it not only played in color but also took away the enlarged screen.

PS any info on getting rid of Macrovision and if it available for either of the 2 DVD players I listed? None posted in the section. And one more question, if I were copying from "DVD PLAYER1" to "DVDR PLAYER2," which one needs to have the Macrovision crack? I assume it is the one playing it?
Thanks Again I Really Appreciate Your Help.
