Is there a guide somewhere . . . ?

Everytime I get my hands on a video I have to figure out what program to use to get it on CD or DVD. I usually just end up confused. Is there a guide that tells what you should do with certain types of video files to put them on CD or DVD?

As I mentioned in this thread, this guide should be able to convert most filetypes to DVD. this guide will do same if you want to create an XVCD. With a bit of tweaking, you can also make it make XSVCDs.
