  1. My Mom got a new digital camera for Christmas. I've been playing with it, and I really don't like the software that came with it. There are like 5 different programs, and it just seems ridiculous. It is a real nice Olympus camera, one that is probably not aimed at Mom's, and that is probably why the software is so complicated.

Anyway, what is the best windows photo software that is free? Basically I just want it to transfer the pictures from the camera to the PC (Windows XP) and then delete the old pictures off the camera. It should be able to organize them into seperate albums, and very minor effects (such as red eye).

Basically, I want an iPhoto for the PC

    Any suggestions?

There is an iPhoto clone for x86 architecture but its for linux. Its called Lphoto, and from the little that I have used it it has the same features as iPhoto. I'm not sure this is what your mom wants though, it might be a little too complicated. XP has a built in transfer wizard that is pretty painless, you might want to try that.

BTW you can run OS X on top of windows with Pear PC:

Yeah, but nothing really runs right.
PearPC is not for using, just for proof of concept.

  7. For a freebie, you are definitely looking at Picasa. It is a great program for organising photos and it can do minor editing like red eye removal.
