  1. Alright, I hope I am not abusing this forum by posting 3 separate questions this week, but I am going nuts here. I think I have forgotten everything I once knew. I want to extract video files from a DVD recorded in my Pioneer set top and cut out very small parts of the video in separate slideshows mixed with pictures. Seems simple enough. I have done this with my old set top using Nero VE. However when I try to do this now Nero seems like it's importing the VOB but then nothing happens. So I went to plan B. I always thought that I could just change the extension from VOB to MPG and edit the mpeg with Ulead, but it won't open the file. It doesn't seem like it is really a mpeg although it is named "sample.mpg" Is there an easy way to convert VOB to Mpeg for use in a slideshow without demux and remux?
The frontiers of our mind are the last place we find, but maybe the first place we should look.

I believe Rejig will do that for you. Or Restream or Rempeg.

  3. VOB's are a container for DVD-Video compliant MPEG2... for simple VOB's that have one video file and one audio file, no subtitles, etc. (like what would be produced by a DVD recorder), usually renaming them to .MPG works fine. You might try using an application like Simple File Joiner to extract, join and save the recorded VOB's to your hard drive as one MPG. It's free and works great for this purpose:

Thank you so much! For some reason simply renaming the file would not work. No idea why. However, using Simple File Joiner worked beautifully! Thanks.
