  1. I've done lots of converions avi to dvd, but am having problems with a film when joining 2 dvix files with ac3 sound together.

I've tried both nandub and vitualdub both resulting in same problem. When I play back the joined avi the audio in the second half is out of sync.
Method used was, open file, click on direct stream copy for both audio and video,
Select 'apend Avi, adn open 2nd half of film, then save as avi.
    Both the avis are compatible.

Any one got ideas what I'm doing wrong, or causing this

If u still get probs in V-dub-mod u could try a different way

Save out each ac3 file and join (using DOS)
Convert each avi to mpeg2 and join (or batch + join with Mainconcept)

    Works 4 me.

  5. no luck with vdubmod, as still came out with 2nd avi audio out of syn.
Guess I'll convert each avi to mpeg2 then add ac3 when author with tmpgenc, but do them as separate tracks, unless any other ideas.

Hey Roderz I love your 'ac3 gui' Cool little program. I use it all the time.

Convert both AVI files to MPEG-2, then add M2V and AC3 for both to the same track, and TDA will join them for you (hopefully) without synch issues.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I have found that the best way to do this is using MPEG-VCR by Womble Multimedia.

Convert each AVI separate of each other. So after conversion you will have AVI 1 as a M2V video file and an AC-3 audio file and the same for AVI 2 (again a M2V video file and an AC-3 audio file). You can use MPEG-VCR to Multiplex each so you end up with AVI 1 as a single MPEG file with muxed AC-3 audio and again AVI 2 as a single MPEG file with muxed AC-3 audio.

Now you use MPEG-VCR to join the two MPEG files into a single MPEG file.

You can then import this single MPEG file (with muxed AC-3 audio) into your authoring program. If you want you can use MPEG-VCR to demultiplex so you have a M2V video file and AC-3 audio file (elementary streams).

I have found that MPEG-VCR will combine the 2 MPEG files together perfectly with no sync issues.

I use to import the two seperate files (M2V and AC-3 for AVI 1 then M2V and AC-3 for AVI 2) into TMPGEnc DVD Author and let it join them which worked without sync issues BUT you get a very slight "pause" on playback at the join point.

You get no such "pause" when you use MPEG-VCR to join them.

Interesting. So you got a computer back up and running then, John ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

I bought a new computer. A Medion computer from BEST BUY model M3 Composer 5200.

Intel Pentium 4 540 3.2E Ghz with 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM running WinXP Home SP2. It came with a PCI Express video card (Nvidia) and a Serial ATA 200GB HDD and a Pioneer OEM DVD burner that is multiformat and does +R DL (8x DVD-R burning).

    I'm very happy

Have to say Ive never used MPEG-VCR, but your right about the slight pause with TMPGEnc DVD Author so will look into trying it out.

    On with the work 8)

Yes I discovered this when doing LD captures ... each side a separate AVI file ... would encode separte because when I would join them in VirtualDub it would always throw the sync out on the 2nd half.

So I would do them separate and join in TMPGEnc DVD Author but get that pause. Then I tried MPEG-VCR and no pause
