I was just talking to someone off a computer help message board and someone asked about the vakoss and he said how he was at best buy and purchased Vakoss 8xDVD-R and they turned out to be (ProdiscF01) from the media code he saw.

I checked the reviews on them for pioneer 108 and just wondering if there any good for burning and viewing burned divx or dvd's on a philips 642.

Just asking since im in the process of getting the pioneer 108 and a philips 642 dvd player.

I recently bought a 15 pack. The code was NANYA-JC001 No Prodisc, but they burned and play fine. Prodisc generally burn well on the Pioneers.

Has anyone tried Vakoss with the prodiscF01 media code?

  5. I bought a spindle of 100 of them from Best Buy in Canada. They are indeed ProdiskF01. I have burned one at 8X and several at 6X on a Pioneer 107D with >NIL: 's 1.18 hacked firware. This burner works great. I have mixed emotions about the burn quality of the Vakass media. Although the average PI and PO counts are very low, there are numerous one-line spikes in the K-Probe style scans. I have burned different types of media, and none of them had as many spikes in K-Probe scans. When I burn at 6X, the peak values of the spikes drop but there are still too many spikes. I should say they pass CD-Speed scans on a couple of different DVD Rom drives with no difficulty, meaning with straight lines.

I burn memorex 4X rated media, which are ProdiskS3 coded, at6X burn speed and I get better quality burns. However, with 4X Memorex media, occasionally I get a disk that fails the burn. With the Vakoss, I haven't had a failed burn yet.

So these spikes what do they mean? Do they mean the quality of teh dvd-r arent good? Do they mean they are good but in the long run the dvd-r will break down?

Have you tried to burn movie files such as divx or xvid's on them?

Funny thing is i didnt notice this but there is a vakoss website and there located in Markham so if i get a bad brand and from Best Buy tell's me if all of them are defective i can get a refund but if a few are defective they cant take them back and i have to go to Vakoss to get my refund or exchange. I contacted Vakoss and told them about what Best Buy said and asked for the media code on them. They told me they would call me back cause the guy says there probably all the same but i was calling after hours and they will contact me back.

But he did say he would take them back but i rather have a refund cause lets say these dont work and for whatever reason i tell best buy there all defective and best buy wont take them back then i rather get a refund from Vakoss. I guess when this happen's I'll just push into getting a refund from Vakoss if they only want to give me an exchange.

I burn Prodisc on my 108 and get great burns at 8x and 12x and surprisingly good burns at 16x (the curve is not a smooth as I would like but they play fine).
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!

My experience is that the ProdiscF01 media is much inferior to ProdiscS03/S04. I bought some Fuji-branded ProdiscF01 at Best Buy while back and the results from my 108 were mediocre at best (high PI error rates, sometimes spiking up over 50, though I don't recall what the PIF was). They played fine but there is much better media available for the money, IMHO.
