i have an xvid avi file and when i go to convert it to mpeg-2 in tmpgenc it encodes for too long. in other words it keeps encoding after the length of the movie is done...it says its more frames then it should be (it should be around 37596 but it says its 83696 frames, thats more than double!!)...it stays on the part where the last frame should be and keeps on encoding......anyone know why this is happening?

Corrupted or missing frames, bad GOP header, VBR MP3 audio, improper changing of framerate, or just an entirely corrupted file to begin with...

Run it through DivFix http://divfix.maxeline.com/divfix.html and try the fixed copy. You can also open the Avi file in VirtualDub and choose "Scan Video Stream for Errors" to verify it.

Tmpgenc doesn't like variable bitrate audio. Use VirtualDub or something else to save the audio as a WAV file. Then use that WAV file in Tmpgenc.
