  1. Emailed Ilo today about macro protection on homemade vhs movies here is what they emailed back.

Please use the attach firmware to update your system.

Please save the file to your PC, burn the wmea1095 file onto a cd-r disc.
Make sure you close/finalize the disc and then insert into your ilo unit.
The unit will will begin updating on its own and when it is done updating
    it will let you know.

  5. I don't know exactly what you mean by...

...macro protection on homemade vhs movies...
Usually, only commercially released VHS and DVD products use Macrovision.

I have never seen a hack that actually removes or strips out Macrovision on the recording end. The closest to that I've seen is on my LiteOn 5001 DVD recorder where the hack makes the unit ignore Macrovision, but it still present on the copy.

Please give us some more details.

  6. I have updated my ILO Firmware Page to include the DVDR04. It now has the new firmware update for the 04 that is suppose to relax the Macrovision sensing.

  7. Has anyone tried this new firmware? I had contacted ilo about copying from vhs to dvdr and they said a new firmware would be released. In their reply they stated it would "relax the macrovision".

The original firmware was "looser" with mv. You could record as much as half an hour to forty five minutes of a mv tape before the Protected Content flag would appear. You could then record anywhere from three minutes to thirty before the flag appeared again. I think this is where the one poster/reviewer got the idea to pause the tape before starting the Ilo and it would record mv protected material.
But the flag would kick in randomly on non-mv material.
The new firmware does not have the problem with non-mv material setting off the flag. But when a mv tape is tried the flag kicks in immediately.

  10. However, I downloaded Guitarman's DVDR04 version and it appears to have worked. Thanks Guitarman. Ilo should have these online instead of email, and I did recieve a 1097 that didn't work? ----It's been a while now, and have done a couple of tapes, the update appears to have worked
    with the false copyguard errors.

  11. Please visit my ILO DVDR04/HD04 Firmware site for the latest firmware upgrades for the DVDR04 recorder.

The site includes the latest firmware for the DVDR04, 1097, hacked to include LP 3-hour mode and disable MacroVision.
