Bought GoVideo R6740 DVD Recorder. Recorded a DVD on Teon DVD+R 8X with it. The DVD copy (Teon) can only play in the GoVideo. It has been finalized. Why do other DVD players cannot play it?![]()
Which forum I should post this question?![]()

Well I'm not familiar with your recorder or media, but I'm sure plenty of people will say "it's the crap media". I'd ask for this to be moved to the DVD Recorders forum, but it'll probably come down to your media.
-
Sounds like this belongs in the DVD Recorder forum. It could be the media, but it still could be a recorder issue. If you want, PM me in a day or so if you think you'd get more help in the media forum and I'll move it again

Maybe it's because it is DVD+RW.
How widely supported is DVD+RW on players? -
Check your dvd resolution and bitrate on computer using Gspot or bitrateviewer to make sure is is dvd-compliant. Most recorders can record and playback nonstandard resolutions, while many standalones cannot play nonstandard. If it is compliant then probably a media problem as mentioned above. If it's nonstandard then check owners manual how to set recorder to a standard resolution. Also check whether your have VIDEO_TS folders on the dvd or a VIDEO_VR (orRTAV), as most standalones won't play vr files.

anzimike,
I will download those programs. What does dvd-compliant mean? What is standard resolution? I will check the DVD for vr files.
On the manual, it says the recordable media is DVD+RW in VR format. -

one other thing to check is go to the makers website and see if they have a firmware upgrade for it. Try the disk in a computer DVD and see if ti can rip ok to the HD.
Whe I say firmware in this case I'm meaning the software that controls the recording and authoring of the disk.
FWIW the Cyberhome 1500 I use has both firmwares, drive and software that I upgraded with.
Good Luck -

Ricoh coded +RWs have worked fine for me. In Canada, these are found as Maxell and Memorex branded. After re-using it a lot (~ 10x), I need to do a full format on a DVD drive though.
The 6740 (LiteOn clone) DOES NOT finalise +RW discs (only +R) so that may be why you are having problems. They do play on both my Malata players though.

Even DVD-R is a hyphen (or dash) but since the other format is +, people assume (wrongly) that -R is a minus. -

Thanks a lot. -
Yep, be sure to finalise the disc.
I'm afraid I won't be much help in recommending media since I've pretty much used RWs in the player. I prefer to cut out commercials and add chapter points on the computer. I've only used one +R and it was a Ricoh coded disc. Played fine in my other DVD players + drives. In Canada and most likely US, Maxell +Rs are Ricohs. The disc that came with the player was a FujiFilm so you may want to try Fuji's as well. I haven't checked yet but other Fuji +Rs I've gotten were Ricoh coded as well.
You may get more responses if you start a new thread and ask for media recommendations for a LiteOn LVW5001 since more people will have that model. Or just do a search.
PS. The same LiteOn region hack works:
- go to SETUP menu
- go down to EXIT
- press 2 9 6 0
- choose region 0 -
I find 2 folders: VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM for a finalized DVD+R. Should this DVD playable on any DVD players which can read DVD+R format?

Thanks for any help. -
Sounds like bad/incompatible media to me. Even when not finalised, the +RWs I burned with the GoVideo can be read on my computer DVD drives (BenQ 822 and old Pioneer 105 ROM ... BenQ 822 is a very bad reader).
From doing a search on Teon +Rs, it seems they are made by CMC. -
Teon 8X are going back on sale this weekend @ $4.97 per 20... I plan on buying more myself....
The two packs of 20 I bought a few weeks back at the same sale price 8X - R worked fine for me in my SOny DRU510 to burn or Cyberhome Ch1500, and play back fine in my Sony Changer. I Plan on using them for umimportant things that I may only watch once that I plan on sending out to relatives as throwaways. If I had Kids that were destructive of disks I'd also be using them as Back-ups since @ 25cents per no Biggie if t hey did damage them. They play fine for me and for the use I put them to which is to clear hard disk space in my PVR (DVR) so that I can watch them when reruns are on.
YMMV
