  1. There are so many encoding parameters that I get dizzy every time I think about it. What are the basic essential elements involved in getting good encodes? The source is satellite tv and the output is DVD for tv viewing.

    Good video hardware (VCR, TBC, proc amp, etc)
    Good capture hardware/software.
    Good editing/encoding/authoring software.

    Sufficient bitrate
    Suitable frame size

    Also read the guides pertaining to capture and encode and author,think of it as a library,go to the section you need and choose subject line.
