  1. hi major,

I recently bought a cheap divx player, in order to convert my concert collection to divx, which allows me to save money on dvds and time on conversions.
I just created my first dvd with 5 divx (.avi) concerts , and some of them played while some of the others didn't.
I tried another media but the result was the same.
I isolated the problem taking one of the divx that didn't play, writing it on a cd-rw and the result on the divx player was the same when played: black screen that jumped 10 seconds at a time, and every 3 minutes there is a still screen (displayed on top half screen).
I then re-encoded this divx movie into divx ffmpeg (enabling only high quality) , but no improvement.
I tried xvid ffmpeg but no improvement.
I let my Mac work this night to try xvid mencoder and divx mencoder and I will post the result.
Do you have any suggestions to let this kind of movie play? It's a 23.98 fps, 48KHz mp3 audio, 592 x 320. The chipset of the Divx Player is an ESS Vibratto, and I disabled the QPEL option before encoding because I read on some PC forums that could render the movie unwatchable.
Some PC users suggested me to disable GMC but I don't see any kind of option in ffmpeg.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers

  2. It would be good to know first your results with mencoder.

  3. hi major, just got home
i burned a cd-rw with the same concert encoded tonight with XVID mencoder and it worked flawlessly on the divx player.
    any idea or special reason?
thanks a lot for your time

  4. Possibly a requirement of your player on AVI interleave parameters (different on mencoder and ffmpeg).

  5. Thankx for your tip, major.
One more: when pressing fast forward on the above mentioned xvid-encoded concerts, I can't see any image but pressing play I get the video and music (out-of-sync, but pressing the Zoom button on my player resyncs everything.... strange but acceptable)
Is there a setting with regards to mencoder to allow the video to be previewed while fast-forwarding? Any idea?
    Thanks once again...

  6. You could find a file which works and then send it to me for inspection.
