  1. Alright, I have a movie file that was a DIVX file. So, I used TMPGEnc to convert it to and MPG file. Now, I want to burn this onto 2 VCD, with just typical 80 min CD+Rs. But before I do that, I need to permanently put subtitles on it, then split the file in half to fit it on both of the CD+Rs.

So, I looked on the site, and found a couple of guides. One option was to use VirtualDub and use the TextSub filter. I thought this seemed pretty easy...except I can't find the TextSub plugin! I've searched my comp, and found nothing! Anybody know what I did wrong or something?

Another option was to use VobSub and ffdshow. Then use TMPGEnc, and set it up so that the subtitles would appear. That didn't work. I installed both vobsub and ffdshow, and still, no subtitles appeared on the film when I went to preview.

Here are the guides I have checked out:

Next, I found another way. DVD2SVCD. I tried this one out. Didn't work. I just couldn't get it to do what the guide said. It got pretty confusing and stuff.

Here is the guide I used for this:

All I want to do is just to add subs permanently to the video. Here is a little info:

-Video was converted to .MPG file-
-Subs are in both .SRT and .SUB files-

I am sorta new to doing this, and would really appreciate some help. I hope I've given enough information to give you guys a clue at whats going on. Thanks!

You add the subs before encoding to mpeg. The vobsub way would be to name the sub file the same as the AVI, and load AVI in TMPGEnc for encoding.

  3. Well, thats what my problem is. Thats the first thing I tried. I did the vobsub way. I even opened up Windows Media Player, and it showed the film with subtitles. But when I go to TMPGEnc, I click on Preview, and it just shows the film without subtitles. I followed everything that was in the guide that I posted.

Well, I've never been much for using vobsub for this - I find VirtualDub gives more control. I usually have the subs in some text format and convert those to .ssa and render them with Avery lee's subtitler filter. The filter to use with sub/idx (vobsub) subtitles I think you'll find somewhere where vobsub is installed. Search for .vdf (VirtualDub Filter?)files in your system!

  5. Nevermind! I finally got it to work! I feel like such an idiot though. What I did was I took the original .DIVX file, and tried what I did with the .MPG file, using TMPGEnc. And next thing I know, I see the subtitles when I hit preview. So now I am encoding it to .MPG with subtitles. I really appreciate all the help you have given me. Thanks!
