I want to encode a mpeg2 vbr stream. The source is 352x288 (VCD PAL), but it's not a mpeg file it's RMVB.
My question: should I encode with a VCD resolution, which is like the source resolution , or should I try 352x576 ? Will I get a sharper picture even when I try to upsize the source res?

No, you will NOT get any better picture re-sizing.
Resizing upwards works best on 'half way' (eg 512 X 384) avi's not on set standard DVD resolutions......
