MyHD MDP-120 capturing still images and converting to mpeg

Does anyone know how to capture still images with this program? and what is the best program to use for converting to MPEG?

Best way is subjective but an easy way is just to save the TS stream. Then run it past HDTVtoMPEG2 to convert from TS to a mpeg2 .

It really quick and not really much of a conversion in the first place being the TS steam sort of is mpeg2 in the first place. From there, load the mpeg into any DVD software (I use power DVD) and hit "capture" for a HDtv sized frame cap..

Thanks for answering. It's just what I thought. I tried HDTVtoMpeg2 but it was the beta version and I was getting a lot of hesitation on the video. I'll try the non beta version and see what happens. Or could it be errors in the TS stream causing that. It does play fine in the player as a TS stream.

As far as the still capture is concerned, I have the ATI HDTV Wonder as well. It allows for still capture right off the stream file so I don't have to convert to mpeg first. Pros and cons to both.

You can capture frames by switching the capture mode to still frame capture with the myhd program. You can even replay captured .ts files and get stills by then just hitting record on your remote.

You can also load up a .ts with the DGindex program included with the DVD2AVIdg bundle:

You can quickly scan to any part of the .ts file and save a certain frame using one of the menu items I beleive. I do this with my MyHD-120 card all the time. I usually create a .d2v file and load it into Avisynth to resize and reduce framerates for later re-encoding as mpeg-2 for dvd authoring.

xpavement, Thanks very much, I knew there had to be a way. I like this program but I don't think it's as user friendly as ATI's. Then again ATI has all these little quirks but still works ok. Now that you told me how to make still captures I do think MyHD is the better of the 2. Oh, and thanks for the tip about DVD2AVIdg. I'll have to give it a try.
