    I recently bought a Sony DRU 710a and when with it I bought a 50 pc TDK +r 8xand a 25 pc -r 8x.
The +r was RICOHJPN 02 and the -r were TTG 02.
The next week after I bought these items BB had TDK 25 pcs 8x for $9.99 but didn't have the -r to order from thier website so I ordered 2 +r 25 pcs and when they arrived the code was CMC MAG E01 so I will not be buying any more TDK +r unless I can see the packaging first.

My question is if I order TDK -r media will I get the good media or am I taking a chance of getting CMC or some other less than desirable media.

My only coaster so far with my new drive was one of the CMC 8x.

I haven't heard of the TDK 8x -R being anything other than TTG02, but in my experience it's not a very good media code. At least not the made in Taiwan discs, and I don't think we in the US will ever get to see any made in Japan TTG02.

  3. Hello RonBoy

Check out the DVD media section to the left. It appears that the TDK 8x +R media in the 25 pack carries the CMC media ID. I would stay away from those. I don't know about the media codes of the 50 packs of 8x +R media, but Best Buy currently has a sale on 50 packs of both +/- R discs. The price is $19.95 for a 50 pack. I bought a couple of the -R packs and they are the TTG 02 media ID. They burn great in my NEC 2500 burner. The sale ends Saturday.

    Hope this helps.

Not necessarily true that the 25 packs of 8x +R are CMC. I grabbed one that was RICOHJPNR02.

The 50 pack of TDK DVD-R I got had a media code of TTG02 as well. Haven't used them yet, but my 15 pack TDKG02 seem to be burning ok in my Pioneer A06. Have yet to play them back. Guess I should. I do miss not being able to get the TDK made in Japan. And being up here in Alaska, seems unlikely.
FYI, almost all of my videos are burned at 2x, no matter write speed of disks.
