I have searched and searched and failed to find a tool that I can take my dvd backups to hard drive and turn them into .img files so I may store them for safekeeping. I know most prefer the iso format but I prefer the img format. Thanks for anyone who can steer me to the best software to achieve this.

You need Imgtool. Do a search under tools. Also, try Imgtoolburn. This ia a great burning application, but you must have Nero installed.
