Since VCD is just an mpeg-1 with proper resolution, etc., why not just encode it in Premiere? Is there a substantial quality difference with TMPGEnc? Speed? What gives?

  2. Though I have never used premiere, it is generally excepted that for VCDs TMPGenc is the tops for quality and mutability. It isn't particularly fast but if you have a high-end system it is fast enough and ALWAYS gives me satisfactory results.

Premiere provides lousy support for mpg. The default encoder is very poor. Good plug-ins cost quite a bit. TMPGenc is free and quite good.
