Sounds more like codec issues than anything else.

There is NO program that can redraw frames.. lol.. it is what it is. Screwed. Try to obtain/get the video from the source again. If that does not work, do what I do.. delete.
I know it sux but sometimes you lose the data. been there .. done that.. maybe a thousand times!

I am assuming that the same blotches are at the same point each time that you play it. Correct? If this is so then cutting out the few bad parts may give you acceptable results. Unless it is more like happening alot thru the hole file.
Just my luck it would have to happen right when "and the killer is...XXXXXXX."
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Those pictures look EXACTLY like an incomplete download...eg 99% or 99.99% of an avi.

Where did you get the avi? If it was from the net, and you dloaded 100% (to your knowledge) then someone has probably re-named an incomplete file as being 100% when it wasnt.

No. No no no no no. Cannot be fixed.
Either a codec issue or ruined file. One of the two.

Agreed. Those aren't macro blocks. I've had good luck eliminating macro blocks from source material, but that looks like a bad file

  15. Try uninstalling all your MPEG 4 codecs -- Divx, Xvid, 3ivx, etc. Then install only the latest Xvid and/or Divx.
