Is a .moov file a movie made by cows? I also don't know what cracking means.

Okay, I looked up .moov on the QuickTime Developer's site where it is described as an atom. So now I need to learn what an atom is. Sorry for bothering you with my ignorance. I'm looking forward to what the pro's come up with here.

are moov files avid related? well the only time i've encountered them was when qt files were exported from avid and then they had this extension, but not sure if they can be related to other codecs too. can you just get the appropriate codec installed and then play it back in qt? then encode it there??

I thought moov files were just what Apple called mov files back before 3 letter suffixes became de rigeur. At least thats what I remember from when QuickTime first debuted.

Well since toast itself uses quicktime to decode the video i dont even see why there is a problem unless its using a werid codec you can't play with anything its a bit difficult to trouble shoot a problem you dont tell us anything about.

  7. sorry, like I said, I'm a bit of a newbie...actually was able to burn the .moov files onto VCD using Toast, but the main problem now is that the audio won't sinc up w/video, there's about a 2-3 second delay w/audio runnning behind the video...any suggestions?

that's one of the many problems when you re-encode video with toast it tends to do that with anything comming from a .mov.

so unless you encode it outside of the toast world it will work fine. Most advanced players for the computer have the ability to set an a/v sync by altering the position where the audio is played this can help but its usually not a constant problem and you will probably want to start the process all over again.

if you reliably want to convert them in sync to mpeg-1 ffmpegX provides an easy solution with its auto vcd convertion preset.

  9. Thanks very much K'ED,
got ffmpeg and gave it a try...now it's telling me that the audio file could not be converted. ffmpeg split it off and it shows up as a .wav file. I'll dare to assume that this is the original file type for the audio, does this mean it cannot be converted?
