  1. Im burning an mpg-movie the usual way (PAL, etc etc), but when I watch it on my tv the image is kinda stretched horizontally. It's a matter of a an inch or something.

But when I watch it in my computer - it works perfectly fine. Why does it stretch up on my dvd player? Note that I don't have problems with any other movies.
I tried burning this movie in NTSC but I couldn't read it in the player afterwards.

    Hello,

When you encode it do you select the source as "16:9"??? Also be sure to select "keep aspect ratio" to keep the dimensions correct.

  3. yoda thanks for your reply. But the problem is that the film is already encoded to mpg and I dont have the original avi file nor is it available.

    Hello,

It would take time but you could reencode with the "16:9" source display and "keep aspect ratio". That would ensure an unstretched output.

Other than that I think you only might be able to fool around with widescreen modes on your dvd player after authoring and burning the file. Doubtul though if you could get the correct playback mode.

Reencoding will introduce slight quality loss because your messing with it again but it would ensure your file wouldn't be stretched

  5. Thanks yoda.
How will I do this in TMPEnc? Mpeg tools does not have the options to reencode mpeg to 16:9 or any other setting like that.

SVCD does not support the 16:9 aspect ratio. That actually might be the problem you are having, that your SVCD is 16:9. Try copying the mpeg2 file to your hard drive and opening it in DVD Patcher. Set it to patch all headers to 4:3. Then either reauthor as a new SVCD or copy all of the other files and folders off the original and make a new image.

If you make a 16:9 SVCD then it will play fine on your pc but will play stretched horizontally on almost all tv's. Some DVD players will compensate but most won't. Some tv's can also compensate if you play with the widescreen settings.

  7. adam: I did what you said, and you were right, the svcd is 16:9 already. I converted it to 4:3 in DVD patcher but hell, the image got stretched horizontally really bad in the computer.

  8. use tmpgenc to re-encode using the mpeg file you have. the avi would be preferred if it is the original file. in the "clip frame" settings, select 'full screen (keep aspect ratio)'
