  1. Hi,
I am using EyeTV 1.6.5 and DVD Studio Pro 3

For some reason I fail to do a proper export from EyeTV to DVD Studio.
When I chose the "Export to DVD Studio Pro" option within EyeTV, two files are created:
    file1.ac3
    file2.mpv

While the ac3 soundfile can be imported into DVD Studio Pro without any problems, I fail to import the .mpv file.

    Anyone knows what's wrong?

Open the mpv with ffmpegX and post how it describes the file in the line above the Open button. You can also hit the Info button and post that as well.

  3. OK, here we go:

    VIDEO: mpeg-2, size: 720x576, 25.000 fps, 15000 kbps.

    Info button says:

    Mpeg 2 Video File
    Estimated Duration: 15:14.90s
    Aspect ratio 4/3 (TV)
    Interlaced, chroma format: 4:2:0
    Size [720 x 576] 25.00 fps 15.00 Mbps

    Mmmmm.
    DVD specs call for;
    PAL
    Video:
Up to 9.8 Mbps (9800 kbps) MPEG2 video
Up to 1.856 Mbps (1856 kbps) MPEG1 video
    720 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Full-D1)
    704 x 576 pixels MPEG2
    352 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Half-D1, same as the CVD Standard)
    352 x 288 pixels MPEG2
352 x 288 pixels MPEG1 (Same as the VCD Standard)
    25 fps
16:9 Anamorphic (only supported by 720x576)

That 15000 is way to high, it shouldn't be greater than 8000. If it really is 15000 (ffmpegX has been known to lie), that's why DVDSP won't touch it. I don't know EyeTV, is there some quaility setting? Maybe someone with an EyeTV will post.

According to the EyeTV specs, it's capable of output from 128kbps to 15000kbps. Set it to 8000kbps for the video and then you shouldn't get the 'bitrate to high' error when muxing in DVDSP. It can't be over 10000 after you add the audio and really, anything over 7500 for video is a waste at that resolution.

  5. When i use EyeTV, i end up getting a .mpa file (the audio) and a .mpv file like you do.

I change the extension of the .mpv to .m2v and the .mpa to .mp2. Then the .m2v can be loaded directly in DVD Studio Pro.

How to you get the .ac3 file? I have to convert my .mp2 file to .ac3.

    Hope this helps.

  6. I just use the "Export to DVD Studio Pro" option:

the ac3 soundfile is created along with the mpv file. Only the selections DVD Studio Pro, MPEG Program and MPEG Elementry create Dolby Digital Sound. The "Options" button is greyed out, so I have no possebility to change any settings for the output or whatsoever.

All three create an ac3 file and this mpv file.
changing the extension to m2v had no effect DVD Studio could still not read it.

TugBoat says I somehow need to change the 15.00 Mbps seeting to 7.5 Mbps but I have no idea how

    Still at all stop huh.
    Since I don't have an Eye, the software won't allow me to select Export, but, it will allow this;

That setting is only available for the Eye200 using the 'Custom' Encoding setting. I have no idea which Eye you have. I think you would have had to set this manually. I also have no idea if it would affect the other models. But what the heck, it's worth a shot. If it's not at 15, I'd slide it all the way over then back it off to 7 and 8.

BTW, my DVDSP will accept compliant mpv and m1a files in a heartbeat. It won't accept non-compliant resolutions, framerates, and apparently bitrates. Most good MPEG2 encoders won't let you select anything that high. And a lot of programs will flag the stream with the Max bitrate, not the average.
    Good Luck.

I'd still change it to the Eye200 and play with it, after all, you can't Author and Burn. Might as well play with something 8)
