  1. I'm reading about all sorts of formats for DV and how you "capture" it (transfer via firewire). What I'm wondering is this: If I an using a sony mini DV camcorder is there a standard format my VD is in? Is there a "best" format to set for capture?

If using TMPGenc to encode to DVD format, is there a recommendeed format I want the AVI file in? Do I just use whatever is "normal" for the Sony DV Cam?

Also, won't all my files be the same if they come from the same source? How 'bout when I run my analog through my Sony DV to convert to firewire transfer - same format or different?

    Thanks.

I believe DV is already 720x480 which is the standard Full D1 DVD format. Just go with that.

  3. Normally i think the format is AVI. Not compressed like DivX or Xvid, but the relatively uncompressed DV-AVI. Takes up about 13 GB per hour of footage
