Does anyone know a website out there that would allow someone to download a short 720x576 PAL MPEG2 file (video & sound) for experimentation purposes??? Shortly, I'll be attempting to convert a Region 2 PAL DVD to NTSC and wanted to experiment with something smaller first.

I don't have any PAL DVDs where I am now, so I can't help post one now, but you should also let whoever can know if you want it to be Progressive or I/L. Although I'm assuming you'd de-interlace an I/L anyway if you're using software methods?

That was the sample that I was looking for ... in a way (grin). I was kind-of hoping it was 720x576 widescreen with letterboxed black spaces on the top and bottom. But, it did just as well. First, I used TMPGenc to demux the audio and video. Then, I loaded the PAL M2V file into VirtualDubMod and resized it to 720x480 (with right/left side letterboxing in tow), saving it as an uncompressed AVI. Then, I used TMPGenc again to convert the AVI into an NTSC M2V file. Finally, I used DVDauthorgui to create the NTSC DVD files and ImgTool to burn a test DVD-RW for my DVD player. Looked and sounded just like the original PAL file, except for the letterboxing on the sides. Had it been a widescreen sample, though, I could have just resized it to eliminate part of the top/bottom letterboxing.
