  5. Let me know if you ordered these, because I did, and then had them replaced because I thought they sent me the wrong ones (not hub printable as described). The replacements they sent were still NOT hub printable, so I would LOVE to know if you ordered these, and if so if they were Hub Printable. Thanks!

HatchetMan, those discs might have a TY media code, but they aren't Taiyo Yuden discs.

  7. Well they have worked beautifully thus far, so who cares?

People who want actual Taiyo Yuden media would care...

  9. Because why? I've gone through hundreds of TY's in the past from supermediastore and meritline and still can't tell the diff. It's good stuff, and was fairly inexpensive, hence most bang for the buck comment!

Genuine Taiyo Yuden DVD media (which is made in Japan) is among the highest quality media available, which is why there is such a fervor to obtain it. Lower quality manufacturers will often use TY media codes because using their actual media codes often results in the discs being limited to lower speeds in many burners. The drive manufacturers purposely limit the speeds on those discs because their quality is not that great.

  11. Limited to lower speeds is many burners? I successfully burned it @ 8x, all the way to the end, past the 4GB mark (that's the only speed I tested it at since that was the highest manufacturer rated speed)! I'm only commenting on what I know about the media since I appear to be the only to have tested it (though I know of at least one other with it that will also be testing it very shortly). The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King: Special Extended Edition looked splendid, I watched it last night.

Take a look at this thread over at CDFreaks.

Fake TY media with a TY media code is NOT TY media. No reputable company would put another company's media code on their discs. Doing so is not only deceptive, but illegal.

There are more threads on CDFreaks discussing this. One of the only ways to know if a disc is truely TY (that I know of), is to look at the serial number printer on the inner ring (look at the bottom of the disc).

weird... how did I end up quoting my own post and turning it into a repeat?

well, repeat info deleted, and you get to read this instead.

    sorry for the off topic.

  14. Funny, I had no errors w/ sonic, my scans were excellent, better than the fuji I just finished off and better than the tdk I had just started. In fact, they were same as the silver thermal printable ty's I have stockpiled. Guess I just lucked out.

  15. Rima is offering hub printable Ty's now.

With their reputation I'd have to believe these are the real deal. I've just put in an order, I'll post back when they arrive.

  17. Order arrived from Rima today. Looks like we have the real thing here. TYG02 media code, UM417A04641GG serial number around a 22mm hub.

The reason I want genuine TY not some fake crap, Hatchett - is simple.

Sonic's fake-o's might burn at 8x - but what about 16x, which is what I burn my TY's at? I can almost *guarantee* a horrible disaster of a coaster with sonic's.

And you pay more for TY, so why would you pay more, for something generic?

  21. Well, I recieved my order today, and YES! Thank God, they are finally the right thing. I think I am shopping with a new company from now on. I recieved 100 full hub printable DVD-R TY's from Rima. Anyway, thought I would let you know!

  22. I just had to post after using these TY's that I recieved. Let me say, they are GREAT! I had also recieved some Ritek full printables (which I ordered before hearing that Rima had these TY's in). Well I had some issues with the project I am trying to get out for Christmas when burning to the Riteks. So I got my TY's and used them, all 7 have worked great! Clean burns! And better than that, using my Epson R800 Printer to print onto these, I must say they look like what you get from hollywood, no bs! I am very pleased, and think I have found the media of choice as long as they don't change em or screw em up!
Anyway, just wanted to share my good news!

  23. Good news indeed. Haven't had a chance to check out the print surface yet but I've gone through about 20 so far and couldn't ask for better burns. My main reason for straying to other brands was hub printing and I would have good luck with a Prodisc, Ritek or Beall for a while, but bad batches would pop up far too often. A problem I have yet to experience with TY's. Now that they're offering true hub printables I have no reason to switch other than the occasional whimper from my wallet.

  24. Mine just arrived today. The burning is good but the printing surface is rough (like paper). I would prefer the ritek printing surface more than the TY.

  25. Agree on the TY finish, but you can't beat the burn. Haven't tried the hub printables yet, though.

I still stand by the Maxell printables for overall burn/print quality. Tough to beat, although they don't come hub printable. Ritek has a strange opaque look that is good for some prints, but cartoonish for photo type output (unless they changed the recipe lately). I've ordered some Verbs, 8X, hub printables to try. I'm hoping those will compare well to the Max's.

  26. I just received 2 TY hub printables from RIMA as a sample they sent to me for a test burn. They have the 22 mm hub, but no serial code printed on them. Otherwise, they have the TYG02 media code and all. Anyone else working with the hub-printables with no serial code?
