I am new, and looking at getting a DVD play.If you had to chose a DVD play for under $300 what would you get?

What features should I look for?

Thanks for any and all help. Newbie-to-be

any pioneer or panasonic, they play anything, and you can get the pioneer dv-434 progresive at sears for $134, just find the latest best on-line price, (currently $134), print it and take it to sears, they match it, I got the dc-503 carosel for $154 that way.

I second sommersby's, recommendation. I too bought a Pioneer (DV-434) after all of the glowing praise in these fora, and I'm happy that I did. DVD playback is stellar, and playback of VCD, SVCD, SeVCD, SxVCD, and everything in between is the best that I've seen on a consumer grade DVD player.

  4. Just bought Panasonic RV-31 and love it. I've made audio CD's, VCD/SVCD, MP3 discs and have not had one problem yet. Oh and it plays DVD's beautifully.

I'll third the nomination for Pioneer. I have a DV-434 and DV-343 and they both are fantastic for anything you want to play except MP3/WMA files.

  6. The Pioneer DV-444 being advertised at one time on this site seems like the best you could expert, it playing anything you could produce. NISM
