Both PowerDVD6 and WinDVD6 have controls to increase brightness when playing AVIs or MPGs. But they do not work for some reason for any AVI/MPG file where there is any information (frame rate, codec etc) given when you select the Summary tab for the AVI/MPG file Properties in Explorer. (Incidentally, you get the file properties by right-clicking on the AVI or MPG file in Explorer and then selecting Properties from the right-click menu.)
I have tried changing from an NVIDIA to a RADEON graphics card but still the same problem. I have seen the same problem on a W2K PC and an XP PC.
Unfortunately most of my AVI/MPG files have this information in the Summary Tab. Many of my AVI/MPGs are too dark and brightness controls would help a lot.
Any ideas ? Thanks.

Will you ultimately be viewing this video on TV or PC?
If on TV, you may not have anything to worry about. For whatever reason, most of my captures look darker on my monitor than when I burn to DVD and watch on my TV. Try burning to DVD, watch it on TV, and then see how it looks.
If on PC, I am of no help
