Is there any standalone player for dv-avi? You may ask why do I want such thing? Well the answer is simple, with cheape double-layer media coming soon it would be very nice if I could archive my movies(and reusing expensive dv cassettes) without encoding to mpeg2...
If there isn't what are they waiting for?

No such player. And you would only be able to store about 37 minutes DV on a dual layer dvd...maybe enough for home movies though.

Yes, but what standalone recoders do is hardware converting to mpeg2. It's not a good thing to do if you want to edit the video latter....
