  1. dvd to dvd no prob , my question is this

recorded some stuff with mu under telly dvdr . amd i want to get rid of stuff recorded before the actual main file

my under telly dvdr records in ifo vob style format , is there a way to get rid of unwanted material without turning the thing into 1 avi or do i have to turn it into an avi , edit , re-encode and re-burn

what software would turn the ifo vob files into an avi if thats whats needed

I'd use DVDShrink in reauthor mode and use the start/end feature. This should allow you to exclude the bits you don't want to keep, and will save any format conversions.
    If in doubt, Google it.

but i have always found a reduction in quality with shrink , plus i dont want to shrink it anyway , also does ( coz its been along time since i messed with it ) it have a preview window that actualy lets you edit the file as is ?

in essence all i want to do is edit an existing dvdrw removing some unwanted tv stuff and re-burn to dvdr , hopefully without having to do all the ripping , re-encoding -re-authoring

is there not a file viewer that just lets u play or see the vob file in a preview window with the ability to cut the bits ya dont want and then just re-burn the wanted vobs and ifo

If you've recorded this to a DVDRW, then DVDShrink won't be messing with the quality at all, because it won't be actually transcoding anything. Your DVDRW will be a DVD5, and you'll be burning to a DVD5, so it won't need to make any changes to the video and audio streams themselves in terms of quality. All we'll be doing is using it to cut out the bits from the VOBs, and update the IFOs for us in the same process.

You could possibly try authoring software such as TMPGEnc DVD Author. It will allow you to import a titleset via the "Add DVD Video" button, and then you could use the chapter edit cut tab to chop out the bits you don't want, and it has a preview screen, and it won't modify the quality.
    If in doubt, Google it.

fully conversant with 9`s and 5`s , sounds like shrink is exactly the way to go BUT luckily for me i already use Tmpgenc author and didnt even think of using that , how embarrasing

your patience is greatly appreciated m8

    another one done and dusted

    Thanks a mill
