ok so i go into worst buy to buy my nephews the gamecube for xmas. they're the first one's to have nintendo's christmas bundle deal(the new mariokart, 2 controllers, and the system). and i saw it in their ads for only 99.99. well i get to the store i see something similar but for some reason it was marked 129.99. i thought that was weird so i brought it up to the cashier anyways. well i guess it was best buy's special bundle pack on top of nintendo's. they just added a single memory card and added 30 bucks to the price so they are adding on their own crap and marking it up at that so i go back to the dept i got the system from and asked him. he just acted like thats the way it's supposed to be so i get a little pissed, so where is the one you have ADVERTISED with a little bit of a mean look. he went basically runnin across the store to the front where they have them burried under their "special bundled" ones. thats just crap, nintendo is already taking a loss just trying to get the system out there and best buy is taking advantage of that. i think i might write a letter to nintendo. and then at check out the girl asks if i want tha waranty, about 2 secs into it i say no. she says well i have to tell u about it anyway im like ok whatever. so she goes through this 2 min presentation and at the end asks me again if i want it like i didnt say no the first time the whole thing reminds me of why i never go into that store

Went looking for a Sony laptop there a few months ago. What an ordeal that was. I believe I know more about computers than just about anybody they got working there. They were insisting on having their techs open the box, take it out and run setup on it to check it out. I told them if they hand an opened box the deal is off and I'll go buy the same ******* laptop across the street. They finally said OK no problem, so I said thanks and went across the street.

You guys must have the worst run Best Buys in the world....either that or my old hometown has the best run ones. I've never had a problem at any of the 3 Best Buys in my area....sorry....make that 4....there was one near my ex's house.

    Hello,

I've never had a problem with Best Buy either. I like them. I don't like Circuit City because the sales people hover around you....

Worst Buy bites in our town. But now that there's a Circuit City there's rarely a reason to go there anymore.

I did have to for an abortive attempt to replace our standard dish with an oval multisatellite dish a while back, but that was only because Worst Buy is an official DirecTV outlet.

You should have let them open it. Then when they're done, make sure they reseal it with their own Best Buy tape. If you happened to change your mind later, they don't charge restocking fees on open-box laptops, they do on brand new unopened ones though. This I know from personal experience

(Anybody need to 'RENT' a laptop for a week or two?):P

I actually purchased mine fully intending to keep it, i just found a better deal. I had a Toshiba Satellite with 15" screen and DVD burner, found one online with 16" and DVD burner for about the same, so I returned the 15" to BB. I'm very satisfied with the shoice I made, not that I had a problem with BB, just a better laptop.

One complaint I DO have with BB (and CUSA) is how their salespeople act about price matching. They practically refuse to do it because their 'after rebate' price is the same or lower. So I just buy it and go right up to the CS desk with my receipt and the competing ad. Voila!

I only use Best Buy for movies, music, games, and assorted hardware accessories like power strips, cabling, etc. The ones near me have been great for anything I've gone in there for, but maybe it's because of their proximity to their corporate office

Wait, I did buy a Siemens range from them for my cabin. That's probably the most expensive thing I've bought from them but they were undercutting the price of other appliance places on those by a lot. I paid $1500 for a $2000 range 8)

By the way Nintendo is hardly making a sacrifice by letting those bundles go for that price. Everyone knows console manufacturers make their money on the games. It does seem odd that the bundle they have only adds a memory card (which I thought were only $15-20) and adds $30 to the price

I went there for a scanner one time and sales guy insisted on helping me look.... it's like yo WTF.... I love going to places like that though and asking some dumb question just to have them give you some bogus spiel, then after there done ask them a question that in most cases is way over there heads...

Like this one time I went. I was looking when someone came up to me. They asked if they could help me, you know the usual. I said I was looking for a capture card with composite inputs. They said there's no such thing...

That's nothing Conquest. I had one employee tell me that there was no such thing as DVD-R, only DVD+R. Another told me that the Widescreen version of the DVD will only work on a widescreen tv.

Another tried to talk me into buying composite cables for my Dad's new DLP tv despite my insisting on component which they were out of. He questioned why there was a difference and I explained that, among other things, it splits the color carriers into three channels instead of 1. He points to the composite cable box and says, so does this, see? There's three cables. I politely pointed out that two of those were for audio as it was an all-in-one package. If I hadn't been with my dad he definitely would have bought them and been stuck using composite cables on a $4,000 tv.

Why bother splitting the color into three channels only to put it back together again. Composite is the best!

the funny thing is that the gamecube wasnt the only system they're doing this to. i think you have to pay 229 for the ps2 because of their bundle deal. and they're doin to the xbox to. this could be that think where they are trying to get rid of the smart customer, and only want to sell to stupid ignorant people(the dell thing)

but the BB here in phoenix and when i live in vegas absolutely SUCK

$100 - but you have to mail in your receipt and the barcode off the box for that.

Maybe someone will find it useful, or he or she can feel perfectly free to ignore it. And as you've pointed out, the point is that people have problems at lots of retailers, and therefore some might find help at the sites we've listed. If not, then there's no need to visit them.

In any event, it's unlikely either of us is going to change his mind about a particular store based solely on what's presented here. If you've had good experiences with Best Buy, that's great and there's no reason on your part not to continue going there. However, it doesn't negate the bad experiences others have had. I've had good experiences with Circuit City, but I know there are poeple who will never go back there again. I don't feel the least bit threatened that they have made such a decision, just as they have no reason to feel threatened if I continue to shop there....

I tend to walk away from people I know are lying to me....and I was always the one who could not watch TV shows like Candid Camera. I just don't like seeing people put into uncomfortable situations like that on purpose.
Smiling and walking away or shaking your head and walking away from a pimple faced salesperson is my own form of self preservation in situations like that.
My questions to salespeople usually start with "Where are the...." because I've done my homework ahead of time.
Ask your dad where mom keeps the window cleaner. He doesn't know where she keeps it but he will tell you at least a half dozen places to look for it. He's doing the same thing the little geeks at BB do....and he's family.
What's the difference? Brush it off and move on.

I do that too. It doesn't stop others from coming up to you and asking stuff. That's when I pounce.

The difference is that that is their job. They're supposed to know.
