MTR 2.0.2 keeps scanning for RCE for ever. This is happening with the Garfield DVD released a few days ago.

I tried to play it with the Apple DVD player first but no success ripping afterwards. However it plays fine.

    "I, Robot" ripped fine.

My Pioneer 107D is code free.

Joachim, what country are you in? Where is this release from? I have the same drive, so maybe I could try getting this one (though I am loathe to spend money getting this crappy movie...). How do rippers such as DVDBackup, YadeX or OSEx fare on this disc?

This has happened to me on a couple movies. Not alot though. I have a 104 and a 106 it seems to happen to the 104. When they crap out in the 104 I stick them in the 106 and its fine.

I am from Germany and it is the German release of Garfield.

The GO button is dimmed and it does not matter whether I start MTR first and put the DVD into the drive or vice versa. Playing the DVD before trying to rip makes no difference.

I also have no application automatically starting when a DVD or blank DVD is inserted.

Any other DVD rips fine (except Gothica, eagerly waiting for MTR 2.6 release, how can I sponsor the NEC drive? PayPal is ready, please respond to my e-mails).

DVD-BackUp: Played the DVD, and now it is ripping fine (currently the main feature VOBs)

The firmware of the 107D is 1.20 (Gradius) region code-free.

    Cheers,

    Joachim

I am in Australia and I have the same problem, it just keeps scanning. I took it back and exchanged it and it still wont stop scanning, I have a Pioneer 105. I noticed when I double clicked on the disc there was no AUDIO_TS folder and the vob files would play with VLC player??

    Hello to Down Under!

There is a new version of MTR out (2.6), which I have not tried with Garfield yet. I'll do that later today.

The AUDIO_TS is not mandatory, but for increased compatibility with older players it should be there.

A VIDEO_TS folder can be played with Apple DVD Player. Check the File menu to open it.

    Cheers,

OK, just reconfirmed. Same problem. Gets stuck during the RCE scanning process as it seems. However, size is detected as 5,12GB and region code is 2.

MTR Prefs can be selected, MTR can be quit without problems.

    Cheers,

    Joachim

Copies made with DVDBackup or something would also work, as long as they make MTR behave the same way...

    dirty or scratched disc perhaps?

I can only comment on MTR 2.6,
and it went fine, scanned and created
Movie Copy, then was able to re-quantum
    through DVDTOX to full disc.
RCE did come up as detected though.

  14. TRY THIS........

in prefs ( MTR ) turn OFF prescan... ( i know the docs say dont do this , but just try it )

next , select FULL DISK EXTRACTION.. ( not the ARccOS method )

this will bypass the initial prescan of the disk ,but it wil rip ONLY in full disk mode....

give it a go , it will take a long time because of the bad sectors....

Thanks geezerbuttz, I tried that but it still keeps RCE scanning, would it make any difference because I use 0SX 2.8? and to teeryj both discs were brand new, its only just been released down here. We cant even watch the Incredibles until until its released on December 26, I think its strange that this is the only new movie I cant back up.

  17. ok , you guys are gonna have to get dirty this time... i need more info ..

Does the progbar startup in the prescan prior to lockup? or is there no pb action?

get me some log outputs ( if i left logging eabled that is!!! )

its failing in the DVDInfo method that reads the VIDEO_TS / VTS.IFO..

so i need to trap the bug.....

right , failing this , you will need to contact WW and arrange to ship the offending disks to him , he will then ship them to me , with the return addy .

you must cover postage thou , sorry , but that is a pre- requisite.

I realise I'm on the Mac Forum but I also had a lot of trouble with Garfield. I'm in New Zealand - Region 4. Trying to rip it would lock up Shrink and Recode even with AnyDVD running in the background. I read somewhere to rip it with Decryptor - main movie and ifos. Then open Shrink and hit reauthor and all is fine. If you told Shrink to open the file first and then reauthor I think it locked up. I don't know if these programs work on a Mac but I thought this info may be of some help. Good luck

    Hi Geezer,

many of us are surely busy these days, Christmas you know?

I forgot my Garfiled DVD in the office and I'll try to give you some more info later today.

Your question: The scanning progress bar does not start at all.

I will try to rip the DVD on my Powerbook 15". To see whether authoring is a problem, I will also try to rip the copy (done with DVDBackup + DVD2OneX).

    Cheers,

    Merry Christmas,

As announced previously, here are my results.

    - Does not rip on my PowerBook
    - Also the copy (after downsizing it with DVD2OneX) does not rip

Always the same problem as stated above (also with the copy).

    Cheers,

    JoachimS

P.S.: Where to send the copy?

  23. Out of curiosity we have tried to see if MTR has problems with this title. Just to let you know that there are no problems with MTR 2.6 and the Italian version of Garfield. MTR issued a warning though, of encountering BAD sectors,, but the final result was flawless. We don't know if the BAD sectors were intentional .... or were caused by dirt / scratches etc.

As the copy has the same problem, is there a chance to diagnose any authoring problems using myDVDEdit?

  27. WW , dont loose the marbles....

If they will not send a disc to us ( and to be honest I realy need originals )then there is nothing i can do.

    I will state this though....

I DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANYMORE RANTS ABOUT THE APP NOT RIPPING TITLE "XYZ". I HAVE ASKED FOR "YOUR" HELP IN THIS ISSUE. IF YOU CANT SEND IN THE DISC TO BE CHECKED , THEN STOP MOANING ABOUT IT.

in a nutshell ... 400 posts on MTR not ripping a disc gets you nowhere..
dont just talk about it ACT!

No matter what the problem may be at the moment, you should be polite to the people who make donations or who try to support MTR in every possible way.

I was not moaning about the problem, I have the original, there is DVDBackup that has no issues with it.

I just discovered a problem and made it public, nothing else.

My last question was just about the usage of DVDEdit in this specific matter. Why do you respond to my question in such way, even yelling at me? I hoped to find someone who could help me with analysing the authoring issue and maybe get around sending you an original. I would have posted the results.

Maybe one of the other 400 people with the same issue will send you the original. I can not assist you with this specific problem anymore.

You will find a Console Log below.

    Cheers,

    JoachimS
