  1. I want to be able to directly copy DVD+Rs with my Dell XPS, and am wondering if I can pull out the Samsung SW-252S CD drive that came with the PC, and substitute a NEC ND-3500A, given that a NEC ND-3100AD in installed in the second bay.

I've seen that both NECs can't be configured as writers, but I just want to be able to read +Rs and +RWs from one drive and copy them without first sending them to my HD. It may prove helpful to have -R/-RW direct copy capability as well.

What are the "gotchas" with such a set up? Should both be jumped as CS?

  2. I am currently running 2 dvd writers (nec nd3500ad and a sony dru-530a) in my pc and I just configured the jumpers the same way the old drives were set. Both are running smoothly with no problems and I'm able to use either as a writer.

  4. doxtr111 and B2D327, thanks for your replies.

Can you tell me if both DVD writers are running on the same IDE channel?

Also,I don't know if I need to be concerned about contention with my hard drives, which are dual 250BG Serial ATA Raid 1.

  5. If your HDD's are SATA, then you should have 2 ide channels, primary and secondary. Configure one drive as primary master and the other as secondary master.
