FOR ONLY £39.99 I bought ASDA`s "DUAL (Brand) DVD 859(Model)" and it plays everything I throw at it.
My old DVD player stopped playing DVDs suddenly, dunno why?
So I was out looking for a bargain player to see me through till I could afford one with divx capabilities. It had to have (Digital)optical out as I have it hooked up to my a/v amp.
I searched the supermarkets and electrical outlets locally and found none with optical out apart from a couple of recorders which were too expensive. My last port of call was ASDA. I could`nt believe my luck when I seen this player for £39.99 and it has digital optic out.
I bought it,took it home for a tryout and it even plays xvid(not mentioned on the box)dvds packed with mp3 files all divx AND wma, wmv.
So if your looking for a christmas bargain of a slimline play everything machine-THIS IS THE ONE
PS any help on my aiwa dv480 would be appreciated,it plays vcd,svcd,mp3 but wont play dvd bought or burned.

  2. So you don't have a huge black border around your divx playbacks, and you have'nt noticed the gradual loss of audio/video sync after about an hour?
I'm sick of always coming across this sync problem with formats like this (no matter what plays them back), and I have been trying to find out if there is a firmware update that might fix it. First starting point the manual, no help whatsoever. Second, try searching for 'dual dvd 859' with your favourite search engine & see how many references you get to 'dual layer' & how few (any?) you get for a Dual website - Dual appears to be a nightmare brandname to search for in association with DVDs! Finally found Dualav.com, but with no reference at all to any dvd players, its as if they don't do them. Big help.

Does Dual have a website that might have an update on it, anyone? I read somewhere that the DVD 859 is a re-badged Yamada, so maybe something on my-yamada.co.uk might work, but which one?
