  2. do u mean ripping transcoding? dvd shrink is used to "compress" dual layer discs so u can fit them on a single layer disc. if this is what you are looking for, well, i would say stick to it, it's a pretty reliable and good program..

But if you mean actually "ripping" which means copying the dvd contents onto your computer, juz use "DVD Decrypter", it will remove the CSS protection, and thus allowing u to copy the files onto your computer

I'd use DVDDecrypter to rip, and then DVDShrink+Nero to compress and burn (yes, even though DVDShrink can rip it too, I think the quality of DVDDecrypter rips is better).

For the best of the best of the best freeware, I'm using the Lordsmurf-recommended DVDDecrypter+DVDRebuilder combo burning with Nero. I'm currently using the ReJig transcoder in DVDRebuilder (there are three options, that's one of them), but I'm going to try experimenting with CCE (another of the three options) I think to see what kind of quality difference I can get. Won't do that until I get the $50 for CCE though. Until then, the all-freeware process works GREAT for me.

DVDDecrypter to rip - see here for File Mode, here for ISO Read and here for ISO Write, or smartripper - see here for file mode.

Not to mention looking at the guides listed on the pages for each tool in the tools section.
    If in doubt, Google it.
