I downloaded and flashed my Piodata 108 drive with the file downloaded from

    http://www.piodata.com/downloads

Is this all I need to get the automatic bitsetting for DL writing?
    Thanks,
    Lucas

is your 108 a OEM drive or a RETAIL one. from what i've read at the Pioneer Forum at cdfreaks.com that Piodata firmware is only for OEM drives. if i'm not mistaken there is already bitsetting for DL on the 108 drive. the Piodata firmware sets bitsetting permanently and you can not change it back. someone can correct me if i'm wrong. check out the Pioneer Forum at this link:

Yes, it is an OEM drive. DVDRFlash.exe shows that it is a PIODATA drive.

  4. you can change back and forth ... i went from 108 firmware to Piodata and back to 108 again ... no problem.

I just bought a bunch of dvd-r 8x disks (19.99 for 50... verbatims from Best Buy) and so I decided to flash back to 114 pioneer to get faster speed at high end.

If I buy some DVD+R disks I'll reflash to Piodata.

I am a total f/w noob. I usually stay with the manufacturer's f/w because I do not need any hacked features (riplock, region code, speed).

But this time is different. I need the bitsetting. :P :P
I have searched and I have looked at the link posted in this thread but I cannot get it.

What do I need to do in order to get it done?

    Big thanks

  7. The standard Pioneer DVR-108, along with all other variations of the DVR-108 model will set the booktype of DVD+R DL discs to DVD-ROM when burning.

The PioData firmwares are the only ones that set the booktype of DVD+R SL discs to DVD-ROM. This is not a hacked firmware, it is an official firmware from Piodata for their OEM drives.

Why would you go back to pioneer f/w for -R?
Are you saying that the Piodata does not burn -R at the same speed?
I have changed to Piodata f/w and Nero is still allowing 12x for G05.

    @rottenfoxbreath.
dhc014 is right. Pioneer OEM and NIL firmware do not change the booktype of SL +R.

  9. well, i copy a +R SL disc in my 108,with dvddedcrypter or copytodvdand recheck it.it states its a dvd-rom.
    i never said that nils firmware changed anything.bitsetting is a POS anyway,its not a necessecity,got a problem with book type,burn on a -R disc.
never had a problem with +R SL discs not being dvd-roms,and DL burns are ROM too as default.
