    Hello,

Ok I'm gonna get pounced on this but three sequels I liked as much as the originals:

    Ghostbusters 2

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 - The Secret of the Ooze.

    Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey

    Kevin
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I agree with you on Aliens. I also liked Beverly Hills Cop 2 better than 1. Surprised nobody (even Yoda) has mentioned Empire Strikes Back.

Don't forget about Backdoor Sluts 9!
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Except - LOTR is one movie released in three parts, not one movie and two sequels. Exactly like the book in fact.

Godfather part II is famously well regarded. Spider-man 2 is rather good.

Usually how my rule of thumb is, if it has the digit '2' in the title then avoid it (roman numerals, eg. II are ok ). If it has more than one '2' in the title, for example "2 Fast 2 Furious" then avoid it twice as hard...

I think that's because EMPIRE is universely considered to be one of the best SEQUELS ever made. Though that's not entirely fair since it's part of a TRILOGY and isn't a TRUE sequel in the classic sence of the word. It's a bridge of the larger story.

Well, I would kind of quibble with that, because I think Empire is a sequel, but I can still see your point - its well known that Lucas had a huge backstory written before the original Star Wars was shot - so when the movie was a big hit he already had material available for the sequel.

I think most of us can agree that the worst kind of sequel comes when the first movie is a surprise hit and there just isn't decent material available for a second move... but they go ahead and make one anyway.

One of my nominations for all time worst ever sequel would have to be Highlander 2. If you remember the first Highlander you'll remember that it was central to the plot that all the bad guys on the planet had to be dead by the end of the movie... leaving just our hero standing. Then they had to make a sequel, but how, with no bad guys left? The solution: alien bad guys! and it went downhill from there...
