Greetings.
I'm planing on using a P4 3000 MHz, 1GB RAM, Nvidia GeForceFX 5200 128MB, a 40GB HDD for OS and software and a 200GB 7200 rpm ultra ata 133 Maxtor HDD for the video, Pioneer DVR-108, Canopus ADVC-100 with Windows XP Service Pack 1.
I was wondering how can I improve the performance by disabling services, using or not using a swap file, etc. I know that I need to enable DMA, and disable eye candy as much as possible.
What would be your suggestions and tips to improve performance?
I will be controlling the computer from a Win98 PC using VNC on a two PC LAN.
Thank you for you help.

With your specs you should have no problem capturing video without doing anything. I am only running P4 1.8 Ghz w/512 RAM and have no trouble (unless the NAV begins a full system scan on it own). I have to remember to disable NAV during capturing.
Xp will enable DMA on its own if the devices support DMA.If it works, don't fix it.
