  4. The Stinger,

It is not clear where you live, but I use Epson R200 and buy the ink from Costco. They sell the value pack or 6 for $58.

  5. I have the Canon i865 (UK model) and have just recieved the CIS from JLWSales, anyone have any experience with this for the canon. The only problem I have is keeping the tubes clear of the print head when printing, not happy - pipes keep getting caught. Will have to experiment positioning.

Look here to see how people have routed the tubing for the Epson Setup. It might help.

    Two notes:

I purchased the CIS from "print on a dime" 80.00 with ink, instructions, etc. 10.00 shipping. That is now hooked to the wifes computer, let her print to her hearts content, easy company to deal with and responsive to questions, I highly recommend "print on a dime"

    2nd note:

I purchased my Canon iP4000 (UK model) for 174.00 by calling eXpansys.com USA store and they brought in the UK model with adapter for US electric, Drivers, all software installed fine, prints to CD/DVD perfectly, and much faster than the epson. iP400 has top load, cassette load for paper supply and can automaticly print to both sides of paper. My personal opinion is the Canon is by far the superior product.

Oh well, I am happy with my decisions and was able to make them based on all the input I got from all of you. Thanks

  9. Why not try Germany? I know it is hard to understand the language but I always get my hardware at this place:

    www.mindfactory.de

I checked the price of the Canon PIXMA IP 5000 (the same as I got myself) and it is 153.79 Euro.

The shipping outside the EU is not posted on the site , but it says that you can ask them for a estimate. If you are inside the EU the shipping is 29.90 Euro.

Only small problem migth be that they only ship to other countries if the order has been pre-paid to their bank account. (but it has always worked fine for me and they are really service-minded even when they do not write and speak english especielly well).

By the way, I think germany has a sales tax of 16% tjhat will be deducted from the tiotal cost if you are located outside the EU.

    I think 1 Euro = 1.3 USD

  11. Currently there's a $20 rebate on the Canon models ($70 if purchased with a digital camera). Link:

  14. Hi guys,

New to the forums here. Been very mch debating between an r200 and an import pixma ip 4000

The price is less on the r200 however the ip4000 smears less, and the ink costs half

www.megatoners.com been using them for years

the canon tanks 1.10 each epson 2.50

    So a couple of questions?

Do I need some kind of power adapter? If so where do I get it? what is it called EXACTLY

Someone said you can get the canonc power supply for 15$ direct from canon? true?

    Next and important:

If I impiort this will I have a warrany from canon usa?

    Next....

Why can t we get the tray anywhere? lets say I get onoe of these, and it breaks, can I buy a us version and use the tray?

    next

IS there a spray I can use to coat DVD's to make it so they dont run

If so waht is it call EXACTLY and where can I get it? If this is the case, why not get the r200 and coar them?

  16. Question: I am interested in a Pixma 4000 for quality and ink cost considerations though. Can you still use the Epson Print CD software with the Canon? I've gotten very adept at it and would like to stick with it.

I have had my r200 since April 04. Have an occasional tray slippage, but if you just put slight pressure with your finger on the tray, and it starts to slip, just give it a slight push. I don't have a problem with mine.

I also use a light spray. In my opinion, you will have a problem with any printer's dvd prints if it gets wet, because the cd/dvd has a light coat of a substance that absorbs the ink. Think of it as a light coat of white-out. Its the coating that gives way if it gets wet. This could be as a result of sweaty hands, or if the dvd gets dirty and you want to wipe it off with a damp cloth. The spray method is easy, inexpensive, and protects the print very well.

  17. Nope you can not use the epson software with the pixma, but then again the canon software is even better in my opinion. The only problem I have fuond is that when you arc text to go around the edge of the cd you are not able to make it small enoug in the canon software, but since the epson software distorted the text pretty badly sometimes have I stopped using that an do it in Photoshop where you get more kontrol over it. What I basiclly do is make a .jpg with all the text and then import it to the printing software.

The absolutlly best thing (I think) is the easy way of changing the size to different presets in the canon software that did not exist in the epson software.

I decided to go ahead and get the Pixma 4000 ordered from expansys yesterday. Two questions now.

1st. Some mediia says thermal, some says inkjet. The Pixma says it is a Thermal Inkjet printer lol so which do I buy?

2nd. Can someone recommend a finishing spray? Thanks!

Errr ... Not to start a flame, but I've tried using the Epson software I downloaded from there site, and it works fine (at least as well as it can).

    I'm using a UK iP4000 from Expansys-USA.

    1) They mean "Inkjet Printable", but who knows ... maybe the thermal would work.

    2) Not yet, but someone - somewhere - recomended a spray he found at Walmart. It was not Krylon or any paint brand I've heard of, but he really liked it, and it cost around $2 or $3 for a large can.
I also wonder if spraying could be used to make a regular CD/DVD printable?

  22. OK, maybe it will work if you change some settings. I only tried it once when I first got the PIXMA 5000 printer. It could be that I was using an old outdated version of the epson software or something, but when I tried it the printer only printed on half the disc. I looked like it was way of alignement.

Anyway the software that comes with the PIXMA is still great and since I got the printer I haven´t used my old Epson 950.

Thanks for the respoonse. Is there perhaps a certain TYPE of spray that I should look for?

    Thanks!

megatoners is awsome. I've been using them for years. I tested using a set of retail and a set of megatoners on my canon s600 and I got more pages of the same quality out of the generic megatoners

Pfft, I got them all beat!!! heres what I do...

Buy the r300 ( or r200 if deal is available) at staples for $179.99 and use a $30.00 off any order over $150.00 , so now my price is at $149.00. Then I get a Price match to whoever has it cheap at $99.00, usually costco or others. so staples refunds me $88.00 which is 110% of the difference, so now my cost is down to about $60.00. then there is a $30 rebate on it so my cost is now at $30.00 ... wait,,,,, I then pull the ink and sell the printer for anywhere around $75.00 - $100.00.

    BEAT THAT!

    I have to agree there.

The Megatoners ink is great and the service seems great too.

I know there were a couple of people who had bad service a couple of months back, but I wonder now if that was just a passing problem.

I ordered from Megatoners yesterday (thursday) and got 3 of each of the colors and 5 black carts (20 carts total) for $50.00 - free shipping.

I got home from work at 5:15 tonight (friday) and the UPS box was sitting there - granted I'm within the 1 day zone for UPS ground from them, but that still means that they sent out the package the same day as the order (I ordered about 9 AM).

I pulled by JLWSales CIS (been having magenta and light magenta clogging issues) and popped in a set of cartridges. Two regular head cleanings later, I printed my first DVD - same as some that I have both OEM prints and JLWSales prints of - I can't tell the difference.

Great stuff at an unreal price - at this price they are nearly competitive with the bulk in price from JLWSales anyway.

    Ted
