Hey Arklab, are you still waiting for your Canon ip3000 from T4 Cameras or did you cancel your order with them? I can't believe that it should take that long, I feel for you!

    Yes, ... THE IDIOT LIVES!

Yea, I canceled ... and it turned out they thought it was taking way too long too! So no prob. with refund.

But wait! There's still hope! THERE'S STILL SOMEONE WHO WANTS MY MONEY!!!

This weekend I ordered from Expansys USA.
    It's cheeper ($146 ) and it CAN"T be slower!
Those who have used 'em seem to get it in a few days to a couple of weeks, tops.

    We'll see.

    Thanks for the thought, too.

Great news Arklab! Expansys seems to tell everyone it will be awhile (for delivery) when you order but in reality they ship really quick. I just love my ip5000!

I did wonder though since I'm using a voltage converter is it just alright to leave it on all the time as I never shut my printer off? This is what I have been doing.

I just got confirmation and tracking number from UPS that my UK iP3000 will arrive on/by Friday!
I've already printed out tracking page from there website, to add my sig. and OK to leave at door if not home.

And NO, I'm NOT gonna tell you guys where I live!

You might want to hold off just a little, and see if this works out!
Also take some time and decide if you want a iP3000, iP4000, Ip5000 or whatever.
Canon has even just announced the MP750. This is a very nice multifunction (I have the old US MP730) which has the printhead of the iP4000 and yes the UK version also prints to a CD/DVD tray.

I don't want to discourage you by any means, but the Pixma line-up is so diverse! There's also the iP400R with built in wifi, the iP6000 with card slots and bluetooth, and the iP8500 with 8 colors (even red and green) to print super photos.

And they ALL print to CD/DVD trays.

    And they ALL have trade-offs.
For many the iP3000 MAY BE PERFECT! But not all.

    Well off for now.

    Hmmm...
    Want to trade?

On the voltage converter, I'd just check the converter, powercords, and printer for heat.
If the equipment is cool, even after heavy use ... then you, too, are cool to leave it pluged in.
If things are warm to the touch, then I'd personally sleep better with things shut OFF.

It's just a common sense thing.

Everything is cool to the touch so I'll probably just leave it on. I may still do the power supply swap though if you find out it works.

Ive spent 8 years in Spain and Sicily while in the Navy and almost all the base personnel's elect. stuff was US 110 /60htz and had to use the converter. Like Ark said, if it gets hot then shut it down. Also, if you dont plan on ever using it for anything else or if you plan on the power supply swap in the near future, which I would rec if it does indeed work, then I would go ahead and leave it on. If u wanna re sell it , then shut it down often as these things can and do burn out.. for lack of a better word.

Yes, they are both here ... a UK and a US ip3000!

The expansys USA folks even threw in a plug adapter - never mentioned in any way - just there. Kinda nice, IMHO.
As I am pooped have decided better to start work tomorrow (Sat.) morning.

Yes they are here and work.

Trying something different to make US think it's a UK, but progress is slow.

    post again later.

arklab, I see you have been posting over at stevesforums, as well. Have you read through all the posts because it seems like there were some early posters that pretty well concluded that it was a firmware problem and couldn't be fixed without a flash?
    Good luck.

Arklab I would like to know if the power supply swap went without a hitch? If so where do actually order a US power supply from as I can't find a phone number for Canon Parts.

    Good luck.
Yea, thats what I've been working on much of the time this weekend.
    It may be user "fixable"
Flash not necessary. Just the secret code. Similar to medical equipment that a tech in the field may need to re-set settings without any tools, but you don't want the patient (printer owner) changing on his own. 8)
There are also the hardware issues, too.

One opportunity I missed, and I pass along for any who are in this unusual situation ... If you have a brand-NEW never used Pixma, download the UK drivers AND USE FOR THE VERY FIRST INSTALATION ON A COMPUTER - ie FIRST TIME THE DRIVER INSTALATION PROGRAM ASKS YOU TO TURN THE PRINTER ON AND CONNECT THE USB CABLE!
    Why??
It appears the firmware (as shipped in a new printer) is BLANK.
It seems to be set (or at least enabled) by the driver install program.

This alone won't be everything you need to do, but it might avoid problems later.

At the least, something to think about for now.

Sorry to say I haven't tried yet!
The Expansys-USA people shipped the UK printer with a "Plug Adapter" that I've been using so far.

I will swap the power supplies soon, but I gotta be honest and admit I don't know just how hard/easy it will be as yet.

I know I saved that phone number, but can't remember where. I will find it, though.
I origionally got it by calling Canon USA support and asking for the Canon Parts number, as I needed "to replace a part that was not covered by Warantee" and they looked it up for me.

    Well it WAS the truth!
    Kinda :P

krupted you just go to expansys-usa.com and put in a search for whatever Canon you want to order and it brings up the UK version. You can tell the difference with the UK vs US SKU#'s.

    US Canon SKU#'s: ip3000 (9316A001)
    ip4000 (9317A001)
    ip5000 (9615A001)

    UK Canon SKU#'s ip3000 (9316A011AA)
    ip4000 (9317A011AA)
    ip5000 (9615A011AA)

Actually, if you want a US, youre out-of-luck - they ONLY have UK stuff.
Just use "Pixma" in the search box, then pick your prefered model.

Oh, yes, ... and say "Good Bye" to some more of your money. :P

    It's worth it, though.

Databazaar sells compatible ink for the Canon Pixma and I wonder if any of you have tried them? Or any other compatible? I just don't want to get clogged heads like I did with epson. I think the Canon has the heads in the cartridge. Also, what is the difference between the BCI8 and the BCI6 photo?
    Thanks

This is kind of a stupid question but even though I also got the adapter plug from expansys I though you still needed to use a voltage converter for the Canon UK Printer?
    Quote Quote
  29. i dont know myself but im assuming, since arklab says hes using the plug for the time being, that maybe the adapter plug itself converts the voltage, it wouldnt require much as printers just dont use that much juice....

If you want to find out, plug the adapter in the wall and use a volt-meter to see what the other ends puts out...
