Well, I've been waiting for a long time now for expanysys to actually ship me something, but they keep pushing the date back. It got to the point where so much hassle + so much extra cost just felt like too much of a stupid situation todeal with, so ill buy an epson.

This must be something of a new experience buying from expansys because mine was shipped in ten days from ordering and I think several others have bought from them with little or no problems. It may be just a problem with Canon getting behind in the UK because they are such a popular printer.
-
Yep, regardless of the reason I just can't handle waiting to pay a ton extra for something that is going to take forever to reach me. today it was supposed to ship, but I checked and they bumped it back to 10 days. kinda glad. I like to have a warranty anyway, and the canon is kinda over priced.
-
pblogic, I assume you plan to print to disk a lot. But if not, you might consider the canon and use the bypass method. I just ordered my second ip3000 for $46 just to get a set of cartridges and a backup printer. I use the bypss method once in awhile, and it works fine.

so did you cancel your order? Also, I noticed the price increased... were they asking you to pay the higher price?
-
yeah, they were. I canceled my order and just bought an r200, though the software that comes with it is terrible. I cant get it to size an immage to fit a dvd. I just get a picture that is too small directly in the center. Why cant I just drag the image to size it?

Gee, I feel a little guilty for posting this, seeing that some of you guys are having a hard time getting the printer. I had just set up my IP4000, which I received almost a month ago (been busy...). It was a lot less painless than I had anticipated! Although I admit I have not tried printing a disc yet -- I've ran into a problem while trying to select some of my scans:
I think some of my scans are too big! But I'm trying to get the highest resolution possible so I can get a really sharp print -- a lot of my scans are done at 1200 dpi. Is that overkill? What setting am I supposed to use to not get this error message?
(Frankly, some of the scans even at 1200 dpi still do not look sharp enough to me -- but that's the highest resolution my Microtek scanner will go. I was debating on whether to splurge on a new scanner with higher resolutions; but if I'm getting this error message at 1200 dpi, maybe I should get one of those $69 Canon scanner instead?)
Sorry for rambling, thanks in advance...

There is no inkjet printer that comes even close to printing at a real resolution of 1200 dpi. You also have to keep in mind that the paper coating isn't going to be like high quality photo paper.
300 dpi will be fine and 600 will be more than enough. Go wild and actually try it and print a disk. -
Well, I did a couple of test prints on both hub and non-hub TY last night, and I have to say the results looked pretty nice... But I seem to have this problem of the scanned image not quite exactly fitting the TY print area -- the Canon CDR Print software will only go as large as 118mm (and according to the sticky thread in the forum, hub-printable TY's outer circle is supposed to be 119.5mm); however, my scanned images -- even after resizing them -- are just slightly smaller than 118mm. So even though I was able to print a couple of nice discs, they both have this white ring around the perimeter of the discs. Anyone printing with TY and have this problem? I am wondering if I should lock the scanned output file size to 118mm in height and width to try to get around this issue?
(Any experts interested in writing a scan/print tutorial for us newbies? PLEASE...)

Still having trouble with the images printing out to be smaller than the TY media surface. Anyone has any tips or solutions? Or are there alternative software I can use? I can't imagine non-Canon software would work with the printer, since CD-LabelPrint is written specifically for the Canon CD tray... But please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for keeping this thread alive!

They have finally fixed the problem of getting the U.S. version of Canon's IP3000, etc. to print CD's\DVD's over at Steve's forum. The final stumbling block is obtaining stock Canon CD trays. Some over there have made home-made trays and confirm that it works!

The problem with Canon is the print quality. Living in Europe i could easily buy a canon IP4000 or ip5000 for printing covers and DVDs, but i had to choose the R300. This is my first epson, i always liked canon a lot, but not enough to buy the second best medium price printer. Sure many tests say canon is good, but i had to see for myself, and then canon was out of the question. Have a look for yourself and then consider if canon will do it for you:

Notice the tshirt of the lady where it meets the skin on her chest. With ip5000 you cant see it! Ip4000 gives a red spotted face and lots of other color errors. Next you scroll down the page and click on Cost per page and you'll see R300 is not so expensive in use. The good thing about canon is speed, the R300 IS slow. -
I'm more interested in printing text & dvds than photos. Canon prints on both sides of paper which is also a plus.

Dear People, The canon pixma Ip 3000 in the u.s.a has indeed a plastic seal to prevent cd/dvd printing because of the epson patent on paper/dvd injet printers and I doubt that unless there's a merger between companies that epson will share the patent... This issue is very old and the canon is refill friendly but the cart's are sponged... However the good thing is that the printhead is totally removeable... It takes 2 seconds to remove.... The cd/dvd issue is harder to solve than others tell because of vaoltage differences in other countries... If you buy one from across seas your best bet is to purchase a U.S. transformer from canon and swap it. You can find the cd/dvd printing Pixma IP 3000, IP 4000, ECT. At the website here and the good thing is that it's a European owned company that has a warehouse in the United States.... Shipping is fast! http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=CAN_PIXMA_IP3000 Lol!
BTW, If you have an Epson and didn't know how to save on carts... Buy a CIS system of a CFS system.... Continuous inking system or constant flw system... They are tanks with hoses that run to special carts with autoreset chips on them.... They start at about $50 without ink..... Check out the videohelp.com Best CIS forum in the media section or do a search on E-bay for " Epson Bulk Ink"
Is what we learn indeed a fact, or someones opinon? -

No more putting up with Epson!! Also I heard from a canon rep that future models will have CD printing available. -
I also heard that the front panel buttons can control the origin settings but you have to have the service manual because the lights turn different colors while blinking and you must know what it means to program it successfully!

It has just about been corrected and hacked and smacked and jacked and whatever esle u wanan call it. USA Cannon printers are now disc printable.

I don't really understand this obsession about converting the US model to make it disc-printable. Is it because of the price difference? I bought my UK model a few months back, and aside from the initial learning curve (I even found a workaround on my own to resolve the ring-around-the-disc issue) I am extremely happy with my purchase. Why not just spend a bit more and get the non-US models? I think it's worth the money instead of trying to hack the current versions. Aren't future generations of US Canon printers going to be disc-printable anyway?

Is there any other software for printing and designing CDR besides canons cd-print. I have just got an IP3000 and it prints fine so far... Cdr's I have seem to come out at 117-118cm no real problem there.. ALso what are the best settings for printing on DVD.. dark or light? Photo or vivid.. what about adjusting photos/stills in elements photoshop re Colour Saturation.. Also a good typeface for printing would be good... something different to TAHOMA ? or SANS-SERIF? @ 18-24..??
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
Does anyone know why Canon will not update the CDR-Labelprint software? I don't hate using it -- well, it's the only software I've used that will place the image on the right position of the disc tray; none of the other software I've tried will, so I don't really have a choice anyway -- but CDR-Labelprint has a lot of limitations.

I just got my Canon CD\DVD tray for my US model IP3000. After doing the mods to make it print on dvds I must say I'm very happy with the results.
The mods took 15 minutes and work perfectly, not only that but I got the IP3000 for $15 paid to me after rebates for 2 of them. So I got 2 printers and got paid $15 to buy them. And the tray was very inexpensive also.
Take that Epson!
