  1. i posted this in another forum, but i believe this is the proper place for this issue. moderators, feel free to delete the other post.

i have a liteon 851s. it's an internal burner, but i bought an enclosure for it so it is now external (usb 2.0)
i've been able to burn dvds on it just fine, but it doesn't burn at full 8x as it should. a dvd movie takes 18 mins to burn. 8x should take about 8-12 mins as it does on my other 8x (plextor) at home.

im using fuji media (not the best i know.). it's 8x media.

i downloaded kprobe2, but it for some reason does not recognize the media. is there a firmwire update or something i can download?

any help would be aprpeciated. i'd like to burn at 8x like the burner is capable of..

goto www.rpc1.org and look for a firmware upgrade for your burner.

  3. already did. the only thing available is a region encoding update. i dont think that would help.

  4. i tried installing the firmware (GS0K) from LiteOnit.com and i get a message that says

"No matched drive selected! This utility is only for LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-851S drive.
    1-0-0-0 D: HL-DT-STRW/DVD GCC-4241N 0C29
    2-0-0-0 E: Generic DVD-Rom 1.0
    2-0-0-0 F: LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-851S GSC2

The DVD/CD Drive you use need not apply to this updating program."

so that's really weird. it sees the drive but doesn't seem to use it for the firmware.

not sure if it's my jumper setting or what...
on the liteon drive, the jumper is set to ": | :" (on the midde one). should i change that?

You could also check to see if direct memory access(DMA) is turned on.
