  1. Hi all, i have an old machine at home, but have access to a new pc at work. Deep analysis at home takes some time so i tried an experiment to see if it would work. Please if anyone has a suggestion or has successfully done this please advise.

    1. ripped movie to HD at home w/ dvd decrypter
    2. took dvd movie to work and ran deep analysis off the disc itself in reauthor mode just for the movie, no xtras (didn't rip the movie to the harddrive )
    3. went home with the analysis file, put into analysis folder
    4. ran shrink (used same version) in identical reauthor and it still tries to deep analysis.

SO, is the problem that the home is off the hd and the work one off the disc? thanks, any insight is welcome.

  2. No idea - we don't really know what algorythm DVDShrink uses to name analysis files - but you should be able to find out. Do analysis on the DVD and on the HD movie on the same PC (work or home).

If you haven't already, try ripping to an ISO image and comparing that too. An ISO image is more identical to the actual DVD - after all, it's fairly likely that DVDShrink uses the DVD volume label in some way to generate the name for the analysis file.

In fact, I'd also try mounting the ISO as a virtual drive and opening that from Shrink (if opening ISO itself doesn't work).

  3. Yes, the problem is that one is one the HD while the other is of the disc itself.

I will say, though, that If you do deep analysis on the disc and copy the analysis file, you can transfer it to another computer and use it in conjunction with the disc on another computer. I even remember there being a website somewhere once that had downloads of deep analysis files for different DVDs. I don't know what the site was or if it still exists anymore, though.

Also, a ripped ISO image's deep analysis file will not work with the original disc's deep analysis file, and vice versa. For example, I've done deep analysis on a disc, then ripped the disc to my HD as an ISO file. When I load the ISO file, I need to do deep analysis file again on the ISO.

    I hope this helps you.

edit: I've thought of doing what skebenin said, about having the ISO on a virtual drive, but I haven't tried it yet. I'd say that there is a good chance that doing it in this manner would work.

  4. Just tried:
    - DVD (in DVD-ROM drive)
    - ISO mounted as virtual drive
    - ISO loaded into DVDShrink

I did not try files on hard drive.

For analysis, it looks like ISO loaded into Shrink and mounted ISO are the same. DVD in DVD-ROM drive is not equal to either.

I'd hazard that your best bet is to do it the same on both PCs - either process from the DVD on both PCs or rip to ISO on both PCs.

  5. just tried ripping same movie to 2 separate harddrives/pcs. ran analysis and no luck in sharing the analysis file. Perhaps ripping as iso to both and loading that up into shrink will give same analysis? will have to try that way, will post with those results in a few days.

  6. maybe the files are time/date encoded ??

  7. FWIW: I just:
    - ripped a DVD to ISO on my laptop
    - ripped the same DVD to ISO on my desktop
    - ran deep analysis on the ISO on my laptop
    - copied the analysis file from my laptop to my desktop

When I open the ISO in DVDShrink on my desktop, it seem to recognized the file I copied. It does not perform quick analysis, and the analysis button brings up the 'analysis complete' message.

Looks to me like it works.
