Hi
I tried searching for this, but could not find an answer...
I burned a copy of a protected disc (CSS/CPPM) using CloneDVD, and it played fine on my Sony Playstation 2 (and w/o Macrovision), but not on my Sony DVPNS 315. On the 315, it just played the FBI warning, and intros, and then did not go back to the menu and just returned to the DVD player background.
The DVD media was a newegg.com branded DVD-R 4X RITEKG04 ... I'm not sure what speed CloneDVD burned at.
The DVD burner was an Optorite DVD RW DD1205.
Is it because it was a DVD-R?http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd5-backup.htmMost movies are encrypted using the CSS scrambling system. DVD-Rs have a ring containing some pre-recorded content which makes 1:1 copies physically impossible (CSS information would have to be stored at the place of the pre-recorded ring - this is an anti copy measure). DVD+Rs cannot contain CSS encrypted movies either. Thus, we have to first rip the DVD to our harddisk.
Although that does not make sense, it played fine on the PS2...
Thanks in advance for any help / info, and I'm sorry if this info is already available on the forum (I'm fairly certain it is), but I just could not find it.
EDIT: Oops, maybe this should have been in DVD to DVDR or DVD Players. Sorry.

Are you sure that you selected the whole movie when you ripped it? It doesn't make sense that the FBI intro would play but not the movie itself.
Another possibility is bad media.
Moving to DVD-to-DVDR forum ... -
Yeah, I'm sure. In CloneDVD I specified to copy everything, adn the file sizes adn number of files are exactly the same.
I guess bad media is a possibility, I don't know the track record for thesse RITEKG04 or newegg branded DVDs.... But why would it work perfecly on the PS2 then? -

OK, I'll try a re-burn.
So does trying to burn protected content on a DVD-R have anything to do with it? Is that site quoted correct? -
OK, I burned another copy, smae media, same burner, but this time used DVDFab, and it worked perfectly on the Sony DVPNS 315!
It was probably bad media, or perhaps DVDFab burned slower than CloneDVD.
Thanks for the help.
