I have a DVD disc that has a Video_TS folder but no Audio_TS folder. It will play just fine on some players but not on others. If there is no content in the Audio_TS folder, why does it matter if the Audio_TS folder is missing?

    Hello,

The audio_ts folder is really immaterial. Even though the dvd specs require it I have done it without it with no problems.

You may want to try different brands of discs to see if that might be the problem.

It doesn't. The AUDIO_TS folder is for DVD-Audio disks. Whether it is present on a DVD-Video disk means nothing. My theory is that since many DVD authoring programs always output an AUDIO_TS, many studios just don't bother removing it before mastering the DVD. If you look on commercial DVDs these days most don't even use this directory.

There may be something else non-compliant about your DVD but it has nothing to do with the AUDIO_TS directory. Your inconsistent playback is most likely just due to your media. The same recordable disk or disk type will not necessarily play on all players.
