It may be just coincidence, but I've had lots of burning problems since upgrading from Nero 5.5 to 6 (with latest patches to 6.6.0.1). I used to get an occasional coaster, now my luck has dwindled to about 30% success. I'm using a Panasonic 521 recorder and Fuji and TDK blanks, which were reliable for me in the past. I used one of thse brush-type laser cleaners and my luck improved somewhat, but still I'm burinig more many coasters than before (about half).

The error message is generally ""unspecified target error" or something to that effect.

I've been letting the software choose the speed, which generally is 1x for -RWs and 2x for -Rs.

I'm wondering if I should reinstall 5.5, but thought I'd post here to see if anyone has seen a similar deterioration of performance with the later version. Like I said, it may be just coincidence. My recorder is a couple of years old and I've probably burned 300 DVD's or so. Is this about the lifetime for a DVD recorder?

While I can't speak for Nero Burning ROM I have a similar story that centers on NeroVision Express 3. I have been working on a major DVD project over the last couple of months that included authoring and burning about eight separate DVD's. Last week, with only two more to go, I downloaded and installed the Nero Updates. First try= coaster, second try= coaster. I'm a stubborn guy so I tried a third time= coaster. I uninstalled the update, ran the cleaner tool, reinstalled the old version. Perfect DVD first time out.

I decided to give the update another try. Uninstalled the old version, ran the cleaner tool, installed the update. Coaster.

I have given up on the Nero update. Will use the old version for now and have ordered a copy of Adobe Encore.

  3. I am having an issue with Nero 6.6.x.x/Nero Vision Express 3 when I use multiple video files I can play the 1st track with ease but each subsequent track comes up with a "Disc is Dirty" error on my DVD player.

When I use the InterVideo DVD Creator to author DVD's it works fine in my dvd player, but with limited options (video quality, etc.).

Are there settings that can be tweaked or is it a bug with the software.
It's kinda driving me nuts because I have been very happy with Nero for regular cd burning.

Have you tried different media yet?

Have you used a laser lens cleaner?

FWIW - I've had problems with Memorex. they tend to offer a lot of sales which are hard to pass up, but I gave up on them after numerous errors. Also, they don't fare particularly well on the reoprts here (DVD Media).

Based on the posts here, I will uninstall Nero 6 and go back to 5.5.

I'll post my results (but it may be a few days from now)

Well, It may be too soon to be definitive, but I just tried to copy a CD with Nero 6 and it aborted about midway through with the message "unspecified target error". I uninstalled 6 a n went back to 5.5 and the CD copied perfectly. I'll post here again after I have a few more successes and a better correlation.

If you decide to go back to version 6.6, get the newest one, which is 6.6.0.3

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the version released a few days ago.

However, I read the release notes and there's no mention of fixes related to any of the problems that I'm having.

I've emailed Nero support from their website, but haven't heard anything back. I', sticking with 5.5 until they have some time to work the bugs out of 6.

  10. If the burner works fine with 5.5, why upgrade?

This isn't a smartass post, I really do wonder why there is a need to upgrade your burning software if CDs and DVDs burned (with 5.5) work fine in your standalones.

    Thanks,

Good point. I've been wondering that myself. It's just that I've been using 5.5 for a couple of years now, which is ancient for most software. Saw a good price for the upgrade ($50 rather than $100) and figured that Nero 6 (they call it "Ultra") must have a lot of improvements.

Guess I got caught by the marketing hype.

I think you're right, though. If it aint broke, don't break it.

    Thanks,
Two immediate reasons I can think of:

Nero announced they have some issues with some of the Windows updates in SP2, and if you listen to bazooka you "really need to be running SP2!".

    DL burning!

    I don't understand.

    Isn't SP2 the latest?

Does Nero expect users to dumb down their machines to SP1 just so that they can use Nero 6? It seems more reasonable for Nero to design their software to work with the latest Windows.

    I agree. You don't understand!

Nero is incorporating fixes into the newer releases to fix the problems that they might encounter in SP2. So they are expecting you to use SP2, and they are expecting you to upgrade Nero.

Yeah, I guess SP2 has only been around for a year or so. However, the release notes for 6.6.0.3 don't mention anything about issues that I'm having.

I got Nero's attention and have emailed them the InfoTool.txt file that they requested, so maybe there will be something in there that will help them to help me.

    Thanks.

Actually SP2 for WinXP is pretty darn new. It really only came out within the last couple of months or so.

Anyways if NERO is not working then there is another solution that is free. Try making an ISO image file using the classic version of ImgTools then burn with DVD Decrypter. Both are freeware programs and both will do a better job than any version of NERO.
