  1. The last 2 recordings I did on the JVC before I got rid of it came out black and white, anyone know why? I was recording from the E-10 to the JVC via s-video on an RW disc, the picture on the TV was color, but the recording isn't. Like an idiot I didn't check the recording and am now screwed since I only have 1 recorder and the burner reads the disc with bad spots, the E-10 doesn't. Make this a lesson to all of you out there, when recording something important, this was very important, always check the recording or you may get screwed like me.

  2. Bad s-video cable or connection (the C pin may have been bent or the connection defective). Not uncommon for s-video cables.

If the TV was used as a monitor, that means that S-video cable and connections were good. Something went wrong with the recording.

  4. I assumed he was using the component or composite outputs on the E-10 to feed his TV, the s-video to feed the JVC DVD recorder.

I do S-VHS backups while recording sometimes!

  6. The TV was connected to the JVC, not the Panasonic. The only thing I can think of that might have done it is I recorded an episode from VHS the night before, which came out fine, and left the composite connection there along with the s cable. I went into the menu and set it to s-video, but maybe leaving the composite connected to the VCR made it black and white. I've recorded from one to the other in the past and never had any problem, that was R discs not RW, but I've never had both composite and s-video hooked up at the same time.

If you had signal pass go from composite to s-video anywhere in the chain, that likely did it.

  8. I didn't have it change anywhere if that's what you mean. The E-10 was hooked with an s-video cable and the VCR was hooked with composite, they were both on the same input at the same time, I only used one at a time, but both were connected to the front input, I just changed to s-video in the menu to record from the E-10.

It's some sort of connection error. Since you no longer have it setup that way (or even own machine), nothing much left to talk about.

Sorry about your recordings. Maybe you can find them again.

  12. It definitely was no connection error other than maybe having the composite and s-video connected at the same time. I had 1st and 2nd generation DVD recorders, I've been using them for over 3 years, I know how to hook them up. I was even using a monster cable. It's more like more faults in a machine that's full of them. How everyone can think the machine is so great baffles the hell out of me.

I know how to hook thing up too, but you'll catch me uttering "oops" about once a week. It's easy to make mistakes. Connecting both at the same time CAN and OFTEN will do this, a B&W signal. I've seen this on my TBC-1000 many times. My mistake.
