I am using an Avermedia USB2.0 video capture device for capturing VHS video tape recordings. The capture software with it is the Neo DVD software which I have read is 'bad' - has selection for good, better, or best quality (1x, 2x, 4x file sizes for the same segment of tape). However, I have had, at least marginal, success with it. I have 2 questions:

1. A 2 hour movie will fit on about 2/3 of a DVD if I capture in 'better'. Capturing in 'best' requires approximately 75% compression (using DVDSHRINK) to fit on a DVD. Should I capture in best and compress or capture in better and use no compression to obtain the least loss of picture quality?

2. Is there better software available that will work with the Avermedia device? For capturing movies recorded (on VHS tape) directly from a cable or satellite feed, the software needs to be able to provide contrast and brightness correction while capturing (or else I need to know what software to use to post-process the digital file to correct the brightness and contrast).

John
